So much for our window closing. We're getting younger while the Pats are signing washed up vets to help their 34 year old QB win his first playoff game in three years. By the way, you forgot Ochocinco.

I feel like the Patriots just offered Ellis $4 to kinda rub it in the Jets faces. I feel like they're saying we did him wrong or something.

I feel like the Patsies are so desperate to gain any edge they can over the Jets right now, that they were willing to overpay a 34 year old defensive end who will be nothing more than a rotational player next season.

The Jets were willing to let this guy walk right out the door, and the Pats threw a massive pile of cash at him. Methinks Ellis would only accept a deal with the Pats if the money was outrageous compared to the rest of the market.

Hopefully Shaun's been smokin' a ton of herb this offseason and has forgotten most of the playbook.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him cut before the season is over TBH. If he doesn't deliver as a passrsuher, he'll be out of a job in no time.

And having delivered everything he knows about Rex's playbook before that time.

So bringing in a 37 and 34-year old receiver and retaining a 40-year old backup QB qualifies as getting younger?

The Pats need veteran experience on D more than anything else, they had a defense of mostly kids last year. I can't stand Billy Boy but he did fine bringing in hold the fort vets on D for their first couple SB wins.

If the Ellis 'story' was as true as people want to believe, why haven't we heard a peep about it until the moment he got out the door? It's not like Ellis played for one regime, he played for six or seven and not all of them were Mangini-secretive.

I was being sarcastic because everyone talks about how our window is closing while the Patriots (who we beat) are unquestioned favorites. If anything, we're equal.

I actually think that's why they did it with the possibility of him being a contributor.

If it doesn't work, hey, at least you made Rex spend time change calls and terminology...

I wouldn't be shocked to see him have a big year.

Ellis should be a bit smarter than that and only hint what he knows until he has the cash in the bag... giving away the info before that would be pretty stupid.
Not saying that it wouldn't happen, though.

Also, Ellis has been great... this season the best way he could help the jets was going to the pats and stealing their money, which he apparently did.

I'm not really worried about the playbook, I just hope he doesn't have a great season and have a couple of lousy games against us.

shaun ellis was good, never great. a dearth of quality nyj ends over the past few years tends to make jet fans overrate him. he's old and slowing down.

also, loyalty is an absurd luxury in this league. if you want loyalty, get a dog. when ellis retires, he can come back and sign his one-day contract.

also, in general, it's hilarious that some fans think that their keen insights while watching TV on sundays outweighs the opinions of a virtual army of extremely smart professionals that has done NOTHING for the better part of a year except watch game film, pore over stats and endlessly discuss things that common fans have ZERO knowledge of -- like locker room chemistry from a first-hand perspective -- with the objective of carving out this final roster
"ellis was cut?!?! what a blunder!!! cotch was cut?!?! what a stupid move!!!"
like these were impulsive decisions made by a drunken chimp? the people making these decisions know INFINITELY more than we do about this shit.

having said all that, this is a message board where opinions are exchanged. martin28 or whatever his name is is clearly not a troll. i kinda get the feeling that some people actually want him to be a troll because that somehow justifies this discharge of a lot of pent-up anger. which i find odd, but whatever. in any case, he's clearly just wrong and not a troll.

(yeah, yeah, i know: "go die in a fire with your mother." right away, sir.)

last thing: rumors that the FO believed that shaun ellis might be a bad influence on the rookies does not surprise me. was he a slacker? no. was he an all-out warrior? did he always get after it? eh. maybe. what i do know is that rex is VERY loyal, loves his guys, and always fields a premiere D.

and now ellis is gone. go figure.

The Pats put him on the PUP list, probably just drilling him for some top secret info on our defense.

It would be so awesome if he didn't even make the team. And wow did they overpay him.

Rex has never run the same defense even two weeks in a row (as NE is well aware of, see playoffs 2010) and given another year and all the new players Ellis knows absolutely nothing about what this defense will be.

If he doesn't make it to week 1 that salary that is guaranteed is no longer guaranteed.

It would be interesting if he were cut prior to week 1.

  19. Anyone who talks about the Jets' window closing has no idea what they are talking about. The key core, Sanchez, Revis, D'Brick, Mangold, Harris...those guys may not have even hit their prime yet, or are just hitting it.

He's missed 6 games in his 11 year career.

I won't believe he's too hurt to play until he misses a regular season game.
