hey guys. haven't been on in a while. i'm not sure this counts as being jets-related but... for the sole purpose of amusing myself, i was just rifling through the bears forums looking for idiots who were fired up about gholston. i wanted to see lots of posts like: i think he just needs a change of pace. some new surroundings. he's an awesome athlete. marinelli will be just what this kid needs! i wanted a cheap laugh, but unfortunately, on every forum, the bears fans seem pretty realistic about vg's prospects. too bad. my search wasn't entirely in vain, however. i did find this post: "I wish Vernon Gholston the best of luck... I remember back in August of 2000 I auditioned to become a member of the University of Tennessee Pride of the Southland Marching Band on the trombone. I was an All-State caliber trombonist in high school... arguably the best marcher in the entire band. Yet, when I got to UT and had to marching at faster tempos, I couldn't keep up the pace because of my feet - they are flat, I have extra bones in them, and I'm pigeon-toed. As a result, I was never given a place on the field to march in UT's nationally-recognized Pregame show, and the only reason I was allowed to be in the band is because I was a Music Education major. To give you an idea of how they dealt with keeping me, they placed me as the 32nd, and last, alternate position just to say that I was in the band. ... When you get to this point in your career, effort and self-motivation can only take you so far. Just look at my experiences with the UT Marching Band and correlate it with Gholston's." http://www.dabears.com/chicago_bears/37986-gholston_motivated_succeed.html#post830489 i'm pretty sure the guy who wrote that is slamming 3 victoria's secret models as we speak. that is all. (rip pats-hater)
ummm, wtf did i just read? I feel like i did that one morning when i woke up laying next to my wifes sister.
But we mix up our horn sections so much that putting a lable on it really doesn't matter. If the kid can play trombone, that's all that matters. Besides, what's the risk? We don't have to sign him to a mega-deal. If he chokes like he did in college, he can go on the practice squad or be TC fodder. If he works out, we just picked up a starting caliber trombone for next to nothing. That said, I worry about his feet. Not too many pidgeon toed, flat footed tromboners in the HOF.
i agree he needs a new team/surrounding/scheme. but he still will suck. i dont care if he gets a sack line up opposite of peppers.
Perhaps he's a rusty trombone specialist? I don't know if we have a roster spot for a one-trick pony like that, but you never know.
I have a feeling Tanny is going to pull a trade off to get him back! Gholston has been here for both Championship games, coincidence? I think not.
