The reason I lost respect for him is because he [likely] got pennies more to go to them (by NFL standards). If that's the case, then he can go fuck himself. If the Pasts gave him a couple million, then I'd be more understanding..... So we'll see.

If his reasoning turns out to be "I think NE gives me the best chance to win a ring", that's a total slap in the face to the team that beat them 2/3 times last year.

It's always business but there should be some loyalty in business. Unless they offered him a significant amount more then it was probably his hurt ego that made him sign with the Pats.
Just look at Edwards, he was butt hurt because the Jets didn't offer him Holmes like money and went and signed for $1 Mil for 1 year, that was all ego.

Jets had his back when he blew it by smoking weed unprofessionally and had given him a very respectable contract extension in the past before.

Him signing with the Pats was more of Ellis pulling an "F U" to the Jets more than anything and I say screw him for that. Unless Ellis got a substantial raise, than he just wanted to spite the Jets by becoming a Patriot.

So, it sounds like he's guilty until proven innocent? Fans seem to commonly demand loyalty from players, while reciprocating very little loyalty to the players.

This thread should have been expected, although I am disappointed to say that I had expected better.

Uh, no one wants him to do well. That's not the issue. Obviously I'm upset, and I hope he bombs there.

We got got Jason Taylor'd, but I can't blame Ellis for going for the better contract at his age, and especially when we offered him the vet' minimum and literally told him take it or leave it.

But still, it's really not going to be cool seeing him in a NE jersey.

#Jets expressed to Ellis that it wasn't going 2give him extension. He definitely wanted to retire w/#NYJ & wanted extension. Didn't happen

How will #Jets fans feel about Shaun Ellis signing with #Patriots? Bottom line: Ellis wanted contract extension b4 start of last year.

Nobody wants a Super Bowl more than me. After two AFC Championship appearances you don't deface the team of it's leaders and let them go to your division rivals. Whatever I'm pissed about Ellis and this is a rant.

Fucking mason and cheddar bob over cotch and Edwards? Two rookies over Ellis is probably smarter move, but Ellis can't go to the pats! He should be burried in his #92 Jets jersey. and smith to the Bills. The man single handed won games for us.

    Rant over.

How did the jets have his back? He was too fuckin good to cut! You think the jets said, we need to support our boy shaun because he'll never find another job because he was smoking the devils leaf?

They paid him when they needed him. Now they either don't think they need him, or they thought nobody else (or at least not the Pats) would step up and pay him, so they gave him a minimum contract or out the door offer.

But it's all his fault that he left. He should have gratefully taken whatever scraps the Jets wanted to hand him??

That's just ridiculous. With agent fees, higher taxes, and the costs of offseason work in the NFL, plus the fact that most of either have or work with charitable organizations, the money isn't as impressive as you may think. It's great, obviously, but it's not like 500k doesn't make a difference any more.

Ellis isn't that great anymore....calm down. Ellis was given an offer, this wasn't like Jason Taylor and the Dolphins last year or Mason and Baltimore this year. He was given a place to return and to start when many teams would not make him a starter at this point of his career.

And he signed with the Patriots....unless this contract was substantially better than what the Jets were offering where it was a no brainer, he was doing it to give an F U to Jets management. Ellis isn't stupid, he knows what the rivalry is all about and was very vocal about wanting the Jets to defeat the Pats on plenty occasions.

Wouldn't it be cool if the Jets ran a team out there like this:

QB- Pennington and Kellen Clemens battling it out
    RB- Leon and Thomas Jones
    WR- Cotchery and Coles
    TE- Chris Baker
OL- Faneca, Pete Kendall, Kareem McKenzie, Mawae
    DL- Ellis.. maybe Dewayne Robertson?
    LB- Eric Barton, David Bowens
DB- Kerry Rhodes, Drew Coleman, David Barrett, Abe Elam

Because it seems to me that's the team you would prefer to throw out there.. and reward all those guys for playing on the Jets, not worry about getting a better team.

I don't have any issues with this at all. It sucks Ellis picked the Pats, but its just business. This team needs to get younger on the lines. This isn't new information. As much as I loved Ellis (one of my fav Jets), he had a subpar year last year. He discovered the fountain of youth for 1 game against NE in the playoffs, but otherwise lost a few steps due to age.

I would much rather have Wilkerson start as a rookie than an aging Ellis. The team will miss the leadership he brought, but he wasn't the only leader in that clubhouse. Revis, Harris, Scott, and Leonhard are all defensive leaders as far as I'm concerned.

The only way I'm getting pissed is if he signed with the Pats for the same amount of money that we offered him. Then, IMO, that's a total slap in the face. Otherwise, its just business.

This is a total bullshit list. Jesus Fucking Christ man..........

Substitute Vinny for Kellen "MBGreen" Clemens and nobody ever liked Coleman, nobody, use Aaron Glenn in his place. David Barrett to he is like going to a fine restaurant and getting served a steaming turd. Get your facts straight.

This is exactly why this guy gets one of my nominations as a future mod. Great point and post.

There seems to be a perception the Ellis hand picked the Pats so he could stick it to the Jets. There is no way to know this unless he says so himself.

It is also very possible that the Pats are the only team that made him a serious offer, and that they are his only real option besides coming back for the minimum.
