in the event that Mason doesn't sign with us.... What about taking a look at TJ Houshmandzadeh? Didn't have very good numbers last year but Flacco didn't look his way that much. He still has a little something in the tank and is a good possession receiver. Bryant Johnson is another possibility. IMHO it's too much to ask of a rookie wideout to step into the slot this early, that's why i'm not really going crazy about Kerley yet, although i think he'll be ready next year hopefully to assume that role.
If Mason doesn't sign I don't want to bring in any old JAG receiver. I'd rather give Kerley the chance during the preseason, and if he does terrible then sign someone who will hold down the position.
I dont know if its a good idea to bring somebody into the fold that late though. I I'd rather sign a veteran receiver to be our #3 sooner rather then later.
I think someone needs to be added. The odds on Plax and Holmes both staying healthy for all 16 games are not great, even if you think Kerley can play the slot everyone else on the roster also has no experience. As set up currently this team can't make a run in the playoffs if one of our top 2 wideouts gets hurt or Plax is washed up.
I'm glad some of you guys just brush this off like it's no big deal. If we don't sign Mason then anyone left out there is a clear downgrade from what we had. Maybe you haven't noticed, but Sanchez isn't exactly a passing wizard. He needs help, in every which way. We can't just stick a guy out there that we drafted and heard good things about in three days of camp and expect to win, which is what we are built to do NOW.
Steve smith from the giants is a guy to look at. If they want give kerley a shot they can but have insurance down the line when smith gets healthy. Also Brandon stokley may be worth a look as well. He played well against us last yr I think in the Denver game. Don't think he would be a bad slot option
Steve Smith who had microfracture surgery on his knee during the offseason? No thank you. He was the Giants second best receiver last year and even they seem to have little interest in bringing him back.
I don't think it's a good idea to bring anyone into the fold at all, I only said it because people are whiney...I'd rather give our rookie time than just settle for some random WR that'll be gone in a year because ya'll are afraid Kerley can't handle being the 4th or 5th option on offense.
Send in the Clown(ey)!!! Seriously if the Jets don't get Mason, they should be fine going into preseason. Then if need be they can pick up someone who was cut.
Smith would be an awesome pickup. He is coming off an injury and wouldn't be able to work out much if at all until the season starts, but he is a good young receiver who could be a long time solution for down thw road.
That would make him cheaper to get and when healthy he was really good. He would be someone to really help toward the end of the season and for a couple years down the road.
Is T.O that bad of an option. I mean we are talking #3 mabey a #2 WR if someone gets hurt. He is still sharp minded and probably could pick up on the system rather quick. Mabey Legedu Naanee been progressing with the chargers had 3rd reciever numbers last two years with the chargers. typical sharger reciever siz over 6ft 225lbs i think.
Legedu Naanee just signed with the Carolina Panthers. How does someone spell Legedu Naanee right, but misspell maybe? ...what in the shit is "mabey"?
