This makes sense now, I was wondering why last year Cotch was dropping balls and I kept thinking maybe he's frustrated he got bumped to #3. So every time a ball came his way he thought too much about it, maybe he felt "I need to make big plays for the coaches to see I'm better than this". That type of thinking makes you fuck up, because you ultimately get nervous.
I doubt that situation affected his play. The back problems and nagging injuries are what crippled his season last year. So far what we know is: Cotchery was upset he was #3 on the depth chart, he refused a pay cut, and because of his health he had no trade value. That is why he was released. Why can't certain people understand this? I love Cotch, but his time here is clearly done.
Sanchez needs consistent WR's he can grow and build chemistry with. Every year he has new ones. Next year will be 2 new ones again. That is setting Sanchez up for mediocrity.
Um, no. Training camp is for "growing and building chemistry". Quarterbacks all across this league have revolving doors at the WR position. If Sanchez doesn't develop into a good/great QB, it won't be because of his WRs.
I called it in the other thread, I deserve a cookie: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?p=2200949#post2200949 Makes sense, why would Cotch want to be a #3 again. He's at least a #2, and a #1 on some NFL teams that have poor WRs. People forget he broke 1000 yards a few years back, and he probably feels like he deserves to start.
Welcome to the NFL. Last year, all we added was Santonio Holmes. It's not like Plax and Mason will demand a lot of attention from the QB.
It's a damn shame Cotchery was cut, one of my favorite Jets of all time, hate to see him go when we are fielding a team that is Super Bowl caliber. Even more of a damn shame that it supposedly came down to him asking for his release/trade.
There's actually a good chance he only has 1 new receiver next year, and that group will stay intact for 4 years in all likelihood. You know who has always had a fluid receiver corps throughout his career? Tom Brady. I don't think he had the same starting 3 in a season until 2007-2008.
If Plax can play like his Giant days he's an upgrade over braylon and cotch. Granted that is a big If. Mason is coming off a 800 yard 7 td season, prior to that he had three 1000 yard seasons in a row. He's an upgrade over cotch at the very least. It's probably more important to put the best talent around Sanchez rather than the same WR's. Plus he will have holmes for a long time to come.
If he was upset he was number 3 and demanded to be traded or released over it, it will definitely effect his play, you're not going to perform well if you're getting anxious because you feel you MUST do well NOW rather then just play, then once that 2nd, 3rd, 4th big drop happens it can become very frustrating and it's hard to relax and just play especially if he was already upset about being knocked down in the depth chart. If you are constantly worrying about performing well rather then just playing to your ability you will fuck up more often than not.
