That's a shitty thing to say. "Hopefully my team won't be able to do what it wants to do to compete because someone got hurt."
I think you misunderstood me, I'm not thinking 4 wide at all. I'm thinking Mason in the slot is better then Cotch in that role because I think Mason is a better player. Unless he absolutely hits a wall this year which is possible I think his numbers will be much better then anything we'd get out of Cotch. I think by having a better slot WR that gives Keller a better chance to be a playmaker.
Feeling like it's a mistake is one thing. I don't quite understand it with the cap issue either. Wishing for someone to get hurt because you're feeling pissy is just idiotic and shitty.
Man the way some people talk on this board, you would think J-Co was the next Andre Johnson. Its a business people. Mason has almost always had better production including last year. Once the games start the first people that bitched about mason will be chanting his name the first time he gets a first down. Get over it.
its bad business... and it just made our team worse in my opinion and a hell of a lot older between him and plaxico
I'm just curious as to why? Put your feelings for Cotch aside and look at it from a production standpoint. Last season Mason put up better numbers then Ochocinco in a run 1st offense. That would mean he had better numbers then Cotch as well. We sign him to a one year deal and next season there are a ton of WR's hitting FA including local product Marques Colston. The draft class is also loaded. We already drafted Cotch's replacement in Kerley and the guy is coming off back surgery for a herniated disk. Ever have one of those? I haven't either but my father in law did and he was in good shape and still in pain for it years later without having to deal with 245 lb LB's crushing him for 4 months.
Mason as a 3 is more than fine by me. Would have preferred a healthy Cotch since we know him, but if he is still hurt, so be it.
I don't want to make it seem like I'm picking on you cause I'm not but I understand about the older thing but neither of these guys are long term guys anyway. They're both gonna be on one year deals and if they don't produce they're gone. Plax to me is a bigger question mark then Mason. Mason had 61 receptions last year and 7 TD's. If we get anything close to that out of him the team is already better then they were last year from the slot WR position. Throw in leadership ability for the younger WR's in Kerley and McKnight and helping out Sanchez because Mason has seen every D in the league and been very good against most of them.
I can understand being disappointed about J-Co leaving. The guy has given this team everything he had, and he is tough as nails. With that said, Mason is every bit the player J-Co is and more. You can bitch and moan about losing J-Co all you want (I loved the guy too), but make no mistake, the Jets are upgrading with Mason. For years, I always compared J-Co to a lesser D. Mason, since they are so similar in skills and mentality. Now, we will actually have D. Mason and this team will be better for it...period.
Cotch was injured last year and regardless i think he is a better receiver than Mason at this point. Its that simple for me.
Of coarse i have nothing against Mason.. I will be rooting for him, ive always liked him. I just think its a dumb move on our part
