#Jets Jerricho Cotchery is a realist re: Derrick Mason: Tells me: "If he passes the physical, he's on the team and I won't be." #nyj

Also, the 4th and 5th Wr's have to be special teams contributors. I can't imagine any team carrying 4 veteran wr's who play on specials. No way the jets would dress Plax, Holmes, Cotchery and Mason.

Secondarily...Philosophically, they like to have guys that can step up...You're always going to have tweaks, and pulls and so on...

You don't want to be in a place where Holmes (or Plax) tweaks a hammy in week 4, and you're F*d for 4 weeks.

Prior to this, look at some of the machinations we made in the WR dept last year, including the garbage that allowed a division rival to get a really good player for f*ng free.

You're biggest investment is in Sanchez, you cant hold him hostage to a hamstring.

Me too, but such is life. I think Mason will be a strong veteran presence among the WR's.

Looks like that was wrong. More like 2 million. This has to be mostly about his back.

No. The league instituted transition rules to clear cap space off this year's cap. Dead money accelerates in 2012 instead. After ManlyGenius pointed it out, I found an article from Friday that talked about it. Apparently the NFL confirmed it that day.

Manish's tweet makes my supposition a moot point.

Too bad. I'd hoped Mason would be a one and done, while the break the younger guys in.

    DAMN only 2 mil?

i know we'll be in a tough spot so 2 mil to us next yr will mean alot more.

but yeah its his back when your bringing in Mason to replace him.

i remember pointing out to someone he might be gone and his back being a issue.

someone said well he said hes "in the best shape ever"

lol i replied what is he sposed to say "im fucked, im 30, my back hurts"

I think just the opposite, I think bringing in Mason and assuming we keep Cotch that makes Keller much more valuable as would pass catching backs out of the backfield. Honestly I think there must be issues with Cotch that go deeper then the cap hit although it appears unless he's traded we're taking it regardless. I'm agreeing with your last statement that the 4th WR isn't really that big of a target, it's having the option to utilize your TE more. If we could get Dallas Clark like production out of Keller this offense could be explosive. I think having a guy like Mason in the slot makes that very possible.

So if Mason passes the physical then Cotch is gone no matter what? Im sure the Jets will hold on to him because I cant see a team giving up a draft pick for him because of his injury..

and Keller could of put up great numbers last year but once he started having those big games, teams started getting wise and double teaming him so he didnt have as big of an impact...

Seriously? You're still talking about Woodhead? I told you then, and I'll tell you now, he had no place in our system. As soon as he was cut, I said "I hope he doesn't go the Patriots. He'd flourish in that system." Go ahead, look it up.

You're acting as though the Colts stockpile veteran potential #2 receivers. They like to have YOUNG talent that COULD step up, and they're good at evaluating talent. Pierre Garcon was a 6th rounder when he stepped in. Blair White was a UDFA. Both of them contributed when they had to in their rookie seasons. We don't trust our FO to do the same? We drafted a receiver in the 5th round and the 7th. We have some talent we like at the position. And yet, people want 4 veterans because we want to be like the Colts?

I just don't see us utilizing 4 receivers and a TE. In all likelihood, with 4 receivers we'd have a blocking back in or a safety valve. If we're going 4 wide, I'd much rather have Kerley and Holmes inside, whether JK is a rookie or not.
