where in that did i ever state Edwards should get Holmes money?

before the offseason I had Holmes valued at 8m/yr and Braylon at 6.5/yr

the nature of this offseason and market obviously inflated that.

I was just saying Jets fans bitter that he wont simply take "whatever the jets offer" are pretty convoluted

the same as people that feel he shouldve been brought in "at all costs"

that being said going into this offseason I felt Holmes and Edwards shouldve been retained, simply cause its Rex's job to field a good defense regardless of circumstance, and having Wilson on the roster.

but in reality this team will only go as far as Sanchez can take them.

I'm sure the Gm's that have listened to Edwards contract demands this year have found it insulting too.

Why is it insulting - Edwards is a friggin child off the field who can't stay out of trouble. His play may be worth a lot of money, when the reality is, since he can't stay out of trouble, he'll get what people give him, not what he demands - The best he gets is a 1 yr deal, maybe a 2 yr deal -

He hasn't really excelled, he never matched his peak year in Cleavland. Last seasons 900 yards and 7 tds was nice, but that is 22nd in the NFL yardage wise.

How much more does Braylon deserve than say Steve Breaston who got a five-year contract with $9.5 million in guaranteed money?

I love the way Braylon plays, and I realize there is more than just "stats" to signing someone, but it's awfully hard to justify signing him to a long term deal given his baggage.

One of the great Jet moments of the past decade. What an attitude play by Braylon.

Not sure if it's worth the off the field baggage but whoever signs Braylon at this point is getting a steal (at least on the field).

There isn't really any "good player" v. "knucklehead" debate about Edwards. He's both, and his contract for next year will reflect that.

It would be great to have Braylon back for a one-year contract for what his playing's worth (around 6m) if we still have it, unless the FO thinks he's too much of a negative presence in the locker room.

In any case, we wouldn't have the money to keep him after this year anyway: it looks like we're going to be filling out the roster with rookies, UDFAs and senior citizens at vet min. But that's another question: with the players supposed to get a fixed percentage of the revenue, why haven't the teams that are miles below the floor been spending like crazy? Is there some offsetting mechanism that I don't know about?

I read somewhere that the minimum payroll provisions of the CBA do not kick in until 2013, so that would be why teams that are miles below the floor haven't been spending like crazy.

    More trouble for Braylon Edwards

Birmingham bar claims NFL star directly involved in fight

    Jalen Rose was a gentleman.

    Braylon Edwards was not.

New information about the Aug. 1 bar fight at South Bar in downtown Birmingham
indicates Edwards was more involved in the incident than originally reported. The star NFL receiver was at the bar with his two cousins in the early morning hours when an argument turned into a brawl that resulted in one bouncer being stabbed in the neck with a fork and a second bouncer being stabbed in the hand with a pocket knife.

Neither bouncer was seriously injured. The two cousins are being charged with felonious assault in connection with the stabbings. As of Wednesday morning, no charges were filed against Edwards, a former University of Michigan player who played with the New York Jets last season. Birmingham police said they had no knowledge of Edwards being involved in the fight, mainly because they were too busy at the time trying to break up the melee.

“The officers were taking the suspects into custody and by the time they returned to the bar to get statements, everyone was gone,” Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan said Wednesday. “As time went on, we started hearing other people were involved in this.”

Kiernan also said police might arrest a third person who was connected to the original fight that resulted in the stabbings.

A statement released by the bar Tuesday makes it clear that Edwards was directly involved in the fight.

According to the prepared statement, “Braylon Edwards was present and involved, but it’s an ongoing police investigation so at this time we don’t have any further information."

Tre Lenard Wright, 19, of Detroit, is being charged with one count of felonious assault and a second count of resisting arrest. His older brother, Edmund Jerrell

Wright, 22, of Lathrup Village, is being charged with one count of felonious assault. Both men were arraigned Monday in 48th District Court, entering not guilty pleas.

Privately, employees at South Bar said Edwards was spurring on his cousins rather than trying to get them to stop fighting. They also said former NBA star Jalen Rose was at the bar and tried to break up the ruckus. Police say several Detroit Tigers players were also at the bar with a different group of people and not involved in the fight.

“Jalen was a true gentleman,” one employee said. “He saw what was going on and he walked right up and tried to stop it.”

Both athletes are dealing with their own share of troubles. Edwards, 28, is already on probation for a drunken driving conviction out of New York City. Rose, meanwhile, reported Tuesday to Oakland County Jail to serve 20 days for a drunken driving arrest out of West Bloomfield.

Braylon's market value just dropped. Being involved with a bar fight when you are trying to get a new contract, not to mention all of the legal trouble he's been in. Seriously, Braylon?

He's a hell of a football player, but he's just not a smart man, is he?

"Kiernan also said police might arrest a third person who was connected to the original fight that resulted in the stabbings."

No-one in their right mind is signing Braylon Edwards until that line is clarified.

Good catch. At this rate Braylon will end up taking a one year for the vet minimum.
