Was told this was a better place to post this question: as of today, what draft picks do we have in the 2012 draft? are we missing any of our own, and do we own anyone elses?
FYI normally a mod moves a thread from the wrong section of the site to the right one... so you don't have to bother to start a thread again in the right section. Don't worry, rookie mistake now the threads will be merged... That said I'll give the same answer here... we have all of our picks, don't have any from other teams and considering how this FA is going we might even get some compensatory ones (if the compensatory picks system still exists in the new CBA).
We have all 7 picks, as Mambo stated. Don't be surprised if that changes in the next few weeks, I'm expecting a trade in the near future.
Could be Cotchery, he's been really injury prone. I have some faith in Kerley and think he's going to surprise, he's wearing the "lucky #85". I think it maybe for Cliff Avril, he's a restricted free agent and would be a good fit in our defense. I just don't know if Tanny will give up a high pick for Avril. Avril has the ability to play OLB, but isn't a sack machine. Would be a big upgrade over B. Thomas.
I just got that thought out of my head, now you have to go and put it back in it. Avril would be a great move if the Jets were to acquire him, out of every potential OLB playing DE in the NFL right now, Avril is close to the top. Cactus would be out the door, all that remain would be what type of deal he'd command...

You know it, I was so glad when the 1st day of FA opened, it was on a mini high from all the action and transactions. Sounds like they want to keep him, yet have put him off priority wise. Would they be willing to move on with Lawrence Jackson, even with his semi-good year, at DE? BTW Even though it's unlikely since he signed his offer that cost Cleveland almost nothing, but apparently the the Browns are very angry at Marcus Bernard showing up at 275, when they wanted him to stay at 250.

If Plaxico Burress continues to be nonexistent on the field, how would you guys feel about trading for James Jones?
Jesus.... he had one game with no targets, until they tried to get him the ball purposely where Mark got killed with the inconsistency of Hunter. Plax will be plenty fine. And even if you still think thats not valid enough, no James Jones just got a new contract were he is making more money than he should and he is inconsistent and drops to many balls. Id rather have Jordy Nelson if anything but we dont need a WR till next years draft.
I'm just saying, if it continues. He didn't do anything against the Cowboys until their top 3 corners were out of the game. The guy is 34 years old and was just in prison for two years. I think we knew when we signed him that there were no guarantees that he'd be productive for us. As Mr. E said in the other thread, the only wide receivers on our roster after this season will be Holmes and Kerley. James Jones could be on the trade block soon and he's already under contract for three years. If we were to trade for him, he could become the #2 receiver later in the year (particularly if Burress were to get hurt). After this season, we wouldn't have such a desperate need for a receiver, allowing us to not overpay in free agency and granting us maximum flexibility during the draft. We could still draft a receiver early and not force him to start right away. He could be the third receiver that eventually replaces Jones as the starter. Just a meaningless hypothetical. Please don't shoot me.
You answered your question right there, hes 34 years old and has been out of the game for a few years now, hes still adjusting back and he has done well so far, getting solid blocks and making great catches ( I dont care who its against). Next years draft and FA class has HUGE names at WR and its definitely the off season to add a WR. Id rather draft a guy like Jeffery, Blackmon, Broyles, Floyd, Fuller, Sanu, or Criner or sign a FA WR that may not go back to his team like Bowe, Edwards, Manningham, Colston, Wayne (maybe), Steve Smith, or Welker than trade a 4th to the Packers for James Jones who, to me, hasnt proved to be a solid #2 but instead a good #3.
For one thing, Jones has never really gotten an opportunity to be a #2 receiver because he's always been behind Greg Jennings and Donald Driver. Secondly, you're saying you wouldn't even be willing to deal a last day draft pick for him?
I might be mistaken, but didn't you and I already talk about how thin we'll be at receiver next year? I know that this team is lacking depth and stability at the position, but that doesn't mean we should trade for a guy after Week 2. Plaxico Burress basically took an early bye week to rest up because we didn't need him against the Jaguars. We saw LT wear down late last season. These older guys need fewer reps so they'll be healthy down the stretch and in the playoffs.
If this team was desperate enough for him? Sure trade a 4th or 5th BUT ( I am probably bias) the draft for this team means alot, Rex can work wonders trading and drafting to improve this team. I think sending away one of those picks for a somewhat question mark is a risk. Id rather this team use that pick to trade up in the draft for a WR like Jeffery or Blackmon, like the Falcons did last year using a 4th in a package or draft a developing CB, Safety, OLineman, etc than trade for Jones. Just my opinion.
For the last time, I said if Burress continues to struggle. I didn't say anything about trading for anyone right now. Honestly, having two receivers over the age of 32 in major roles scares me. I'd rather overpay for James Jones (if only for insurance) than have to watch this team struggle to move the ball late in the year because two of our top three receivers got injured.
