If we bring in Darren Sharper, I'm gonna call this team the New York Vets. Seriously though, if he's still got a little left in the tank, he could be an upgrade over Eric Smith. Smith will serve us better as a role player anyway.
I dont really want Eric Smith starting, he cant really cover for shit and having two guys as our safeties who cant cover a TE is not really good... I would rather have Dwight Lowery as a ball hawk back there
At one point or another today Tannenbaum, Ryan and Johnson all said they aren't done and more moves will be made before the first game. For some reason with all that talk I don't think they were referring to second or third string depth guys either. They have something they are trying to do.
Jets are gonna make a splash and there aren't really any clues. All we know is that Cotchery is on the block. I'd imagine they want to deal him to a team in need of a receiver in return for a passrusher or safety. Cotchery to the Redskins plus a late round pick in return for LaRon Landry maybe?
Abe Elam is still available right? He'd be a nice, fairly cheap option to throw into the mix. Plus he's worked with Rob Ryan so he could learn quickly.
Abram Elam (Liked when we was here and he did pretty good in Cleveland.) - Dallas chasing Donte Whitner (Tackling machine last year with 140 tackles.) - Bengals chasing. Not too sure going into season with Smith starting... he played good when needed but had some penalties and blew some coverages allowing big scores.
I'm not too nervous with Smith, he really stepped up his game when needed. We do have Cook as well, I know he was working hard this offseason. It seems that every teams fans are calling NFL radio and asking about Manny Lawson. The most puzzling part is the fact that the Niners had $31 million in cap to spend and so far have spent $1 million. lol Why they haven't resigned him is anyone's guess. The Niners should be very active with that kind of money, and if I were them I'd make a big push for Braylon.
You should add Dashon Goldson to that list. The 49ers and Raiders were bidding on him but the Raiders have to be out after re-signing Michael Huff. Not sure how much the 49ers are offering but it's worth looking into.
I found an old Plaxico jersey that I bought after he went to jail for $4.97 to turn into a Halloween costume, but never happened. It's the white/red one. I guess you could say I called it.
on what planet is someone going to give one of the best safties in football, who is young, in a trade for a WR coming off back surgery and a late pick?
Dashon Goldson The 49ers and Raiders are battling for the services of free agent FS Dashon Goldson, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Goldson is one of the top safeties on the market and would be wise to let a bidding war ensue. The Niners are already on the record saying re-signing him is their No. 1 priority and the Raiders are may be ready to let free agent Michael Huff walk. Look for Goldson to land with the highest bidder. ---- Too rich for the jets, plus Elam knows our offense and played in a 3-4 the last few years. Whitner has some 3-4 experience and way better stats. Whitner at the same age as Goldson has been an NFL starter for the last five seasons, Goldson has only been a two year starter.
I'm baffled by the way SF has been acting this offseason. I know they were trying for some FAs, but their secondary is in absolutely terrible shape. They simply have to be looking to trade for a corner at this point or Vic Fangio is going to have a nightmare on his hands.
Landry's coming off IR with a busted Achilles Cotchery plus a 3rd and a 6th is in the realm of possibility I think
Cotchery is coming off the worst season of his life. And at his absolute best hes a number 2 receiver. For the most part, hes a very good 3. Stop over inflating Cotchery please.
