I will be shocked if Burress starts unless Cotch gets injured again.

    He's already injured.

Burress was brought in to start.

People quickly forget just how important this play was for the 2010 season.

Herniated discs can end careers, very difficult to come back from...I like Jerricho Cotchery, but trading him would be a smart business decision.

I doubt we'd get more than a 5th for him...

I'm against the fence with this signing. I just don't see how a player that's been out of the league for two years can come in and play at the same level again...

It's been reported that he was brought in to start though.

Michael Vick proved that it can be done - I'll just hope for the best possible outcome.

If we're trading Cotchery, we need to go after Zach Miller.

Well, Vick didn't start in his 1st year back, but QB and WR are apples and oranges of course.

Burress better be lights out in TC to start.

Miller isn't talking to anyone but the Raiders, for some reason he really wants to stay there...

Exactly. Lets give Cotch a 5 year extension worth $60mil, cuz he made the catch of the season for the Jets.

Thank God. I was scratching my head at some of the flip flops that were going on here the past few days. Sadly enough, the only thing that made me feel better was the report that the team had no intention of bringing Edwards back. Period.

No argument with the bolded statement. But we've lost Edwards. We agree that if Braylon comes back, the impact of losing Cotchery is negligible.

But if Braylon doesn't come back? Cotchery becomes decidedly more important to the continuity of this offense.

That's plausible. If I'm Cotchery, I can grasp losing my starting job to a peaking Santonio Holmes. Losing my job to an aged ex-con might compel me to seek employment elsewhere.

As a rule, I object to this reasoning. I think it comes down to a "nature vs. nurture" debate. I know there are certain players in this league who have shaped their teams with their talent- Ray Lewis was going to be a monster wherever he landed. Calvin Johnson was going to be a dominant receiver even if he was drafted by... well, the Lions.

But I don't think it's the only path to creating dominant NFL players. I think it's possible to nurture success, even at this level. Maybe Sanchez is naturally a franchise quarterback, in which case, we win. Maybe Sanchez needs to be developed into a franchise quarterback, in which case, we win.

But we should err on the side of developing him.

I usually stick to my guns...especially when it's football related. Edwards is an amazing physically talent when he's on. It seemed like the light bulb turned on last seasons - very few drops and a winning oriented attitude. It sucks that he won't be back.

There's good and bad in a Cotchery's trade. I won't lose any sleep over it.
