Cotchery is not going to be part of the long term plan. Trading him gets an extra 500,000 on the cap this year and 4 million next year. He's not a slot receiver, so using him as the third receiver with a 4 million cap hit is not good use of the cap. If they were planning to cut him after the season, it's wise to get a mid round pick for him now. People need to realize that when you keep giving out large contracts, that you can't keep players making $4 million that are backups.
Don't forget that we've got Sanchez's old buddy Scotty McKnight as well........ I'm clutching at straws now, aren't I?
I really don't think you've looked at the 2012 situation if you think it's that easy. We can't gear up for ONE shot this year and then completely destroy the team next year. Cotchery will certainly be missed, but he's not even a starter for us any more, and we just drafted a pure slot receiver.
I would be far more open to it if Cotchery could net us something bigger than he really can. Jerricho is one of those guys who is far more valuable to us than he would ever be to another team. Unless the Jets are still interested in Moss?
Steelers cut Randel-El... he could be a decent slot WR for us maybe?? and I guess the Jets want to trade Cotchery because they are aiming for Moss now.. WOWWWWWW I like this move...
Naanee - Moss - Floyd - Houshmanzadeh - Mason - Randle El - Buster Davis - Early Doucet (RFA)? Not much out there... Still from the press conference I think it's pretty certain Cotchery is gone... I'm guessing more because of what Ignatius is saying than talent or stuff like that. Curious... referring to Kerley or McKnight? I really hope the McKnight-Sanchez relationship produces something this year...
If James Jones was still available, I could see dealing Cotchery and taking advantage of the depressed WR market by signing Jones, a younger WR somewhat comparable to Cotchery, to a more cap-friendly deal while getting a draft pick and getting younger at WR. But Jones just got brought back to GB.
Fuck that. Plax is unproven so far. Cotchery is willing to give up his body(his groin/balls) to win games. He has been here since today 1 with Sanchez, and I personally like that. He isnt even going to get us anything. He is coming off an injury. I know the reason would be to free up money, but tell Scott, or Pace to take a reduction.
RichCimini Rich Cimini by michaelombardi I can confirm a report by @michaelombardi that the #Jets have dangled J Cotchery in trade talks to free cap room. As for Tanny, he's a professional BS artist.
