Jets Shopping Cotchery Per Twitter: @michaelombardi Michael Lombardi Yes confirmed from 2 NFL team sources, the Jets are willing to trade WR--Jerrico Cotchery-possiblely to free up cap space and sign other FAs
michaelombardi Michael Lombardi Yes confirmed from 2 NFL team sources, the Jets are willing to trade WR--Jerrico Cotchery-possibly to free up cap space and sign other FAs Wow... didn't expect that (assuming it's true). 1. I like Burress as a compliment to our O, not as our starting WR. 2. Cotchery's cap number isn't that big... plus considering the potential dead money he wouldn't free up much space (unless I'm mising something). 3. He's always been reliable and knows the system inside out. Great team-mate and is coming of the worst season of his career + an injury so I don't think we could get much for him. I really really hope Lombardi is wrong here... the only reason I wouldn't mind this is if we get Edwards back but that doesn't seem to be the case. Ps http://www.nyjetscap.com/jerrichocotchery.html
He's only going to be worth a 4th, maybe two late rounders tops if a team is that WR desparate and the draft pick is purely conditional on is success on that other team.
WTF is this talk that we are looking to trade Cotchery? I have no problem being active in free agency but for the love of god resign Shaun Ellis, give David Harris his longterm deal and keep Cotchery. You need guys like them on your team if you want to win a Super Bowl We need to take care of our own.
I would be shocked if they traded him. But I'm not shocked that they are shopping him around. Im sure they will not get much back for him anyway. He'll be with the Jets this year.
Obviously not since no team in the history of the NFL has ever won a Super Bowl with Cotchery on their team.
I'm not sure what Cotchery's cap number is, but my first reaction is that I would hate this move. Removing two of Sanchez's weapons from his first two seasons (Cotch and Edwards) would not help in his development. The (likely) one-year rental of Plax won't allow much chemistry to develop either. I really hope this proves to be an unfounded rumour.
Doubt teams are going to give up too much for him coming off an injury and a down year like that.. But I also think the Jets are probably "open" to trading just about anybody on their team. Probably just exploring their options.. I hope nothing comes of it. J-Co is great insurance in case Plax doesn't regain his old form.
i will be very upset if this happens... we will be back down to 2 receivers... this totally cancels out the good feelings about plax if it is true
I'm not surprised, JC0 is going to be 3rd receiver at best and likely will not play special teams. A really class guy but I think he has little value on the open market. Look for him to stay at a reduced rate.
RichCimini I can confirm a report by @michaelombardi that the #Jets have dangled J Cotchery in trade talks to free cap room.
I agree this is what will happen. Next year will be the final year of his contract + most of it won't be guaranteed so something will be done. This year I don't anticipate anyone will make a significant offer for Cotch. Then again the Cardinals gave 7.5 mill over 2 seasons for Stuckey so you never now... I'm guessing this is due diligence from Tanny.
I just lit up a cigarette at work, and there's no smoking in here... Wait.. I don't even smoke... WTF IS GOING ON!
