While I think that the signings of Holmes and Cro are (obviously) huge for this team, I think the signing of Strickland is being severely overlooked. When healthy, he is leagues better than Drew Coleman (or Kyle Wilson, for that matter) and might give the secondary a real boost. I loved him when he was on the field for us a few years ago, so hopefully his body will hold up this year. In general, I'm pretty pleased with this FA period. I'm still skeptical of the Plax signing, but if he plays with a chip on his shoulder I think it will turn out okay. Coming in, I felt if the Jets could retain two of either Holmes, Edwards, or Cromartie, the offseason would be a success, and here we are. I couldn't be more excited for this season.
when you have a team that went to the championship game or superbowl, the offseason is about trying to bring that team back. case in point: the packers LOST nick barnett and cullen jenkins and had tro scramble to resign jones the steelers added no one, resigned ike taylor, and cut adams and randle el. the bears added roy williams and traded olsen for a 3rd rounder. i think we did a great job bringing back basically the same team despite having a ton of high profile and second tier free agents and having to crunch the cap the bears LOST
Three questions: 1) Does this mean they are out of it for Philip Buchanon now or was he considered a depth signing? 2) Do they have any chance of signing a Manny Lawson? 3) Any Shaun Ellis news?
Buchanon is obviously not coming here. The Jets have Revis, Cro, Wilson, Strickland, and Cole under contract. Cole isn't a slouch either. Lawson was never reported as a Jets interest. Ellis has been offered to return. We may here back on that today.
Gonna just figure that we dont have interest in buchanan now because we now have Revis, Cro, Wilson, and Strickland- VERY solid depth. I wouldnt be surprised if we sign a safety though
There's no reason to sign Buchanon now. If anyone else gets signed, it'll likely be for the vet exemption. Tanny needs to consider next year's cap with all of these restructures, and I'm sure he's doing just that.
Have we signed Ihedigo yet? I know an offer was made, but I haven't seen anything since. Nothing on google search.
So the Jets still need a free safety and a blocking tight end. Any suggestions? No way Eric Smith is starting at free safety.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Tanny pull off a trade.. or maybe they have very high hopes for Lowery to be a coverage safety. I've read several times they have interest in Darren Sharper if he's cut, but that's just speculation mostly, plus I can't imagine he has much left in the tank.
What are the chances of us going after Zach Miller? And what Free Safeties are out there that could excel in this system?
These guys are all still available as of right now FS Available: James Ihedigbo (One of my favorite backups.) Jets offered a contract. Abram Elam (Liked when we was here and he did pretty good in Cleveland.) - Dallas chasing Donte Whitner (Tackling machine last year with 140 tackles.) - Bengals chasing. SS Available: Brodney Pool (He knows our system and was reliable.) -- Update -- The Jets will not bring back free agent Brodney Pool, a source tells beat writer Manish Mehta.Safety isn't a priority, especially after Eric Smith signed a three-year deal late Friday night. Smith is likely to take Pool's place in the starting lineup. Pool has generated surprisingly little buzz for a 27-year-old cover safety. Jul 30, 8:28 AM Bernard Pollard (111 tackles, 4 FF, 2.5 sackles...good stats, great size) No interest by anyone, not a coverage safety at all.
Some dweeb calls Moose and says DeSean Jackson is gonna be holding out and could get traded to the Jets. I needed a good laugh.
I'd like to see them get Pool back, but it doesn't sound like they want him. Apparently we got sick of our ex-Browns.
