Interesting tweet from egghead ClaytonESPN John Clayton As part of the Jets hectic pace on getting Antonio Cromartie under contract, they are calling around on trades to clear cap room
I hope they don't make a stupid trade and give someone away just to get under the cap . Not worth it , if Cro want too much just walk away
Let's face it Jet fans, I'm as big of a supporter as any for Tannenbaum but he completely choked this offseason. There is NO WAY any one of you, can make any LOGICAL argument stating Cromartie is going to be worth THAT MUCH more than Nate Clements. Clements is a proven top CB with good man cover skills and has no baggage off the field. Not only will we overpay for Cromartie, but we lose Braylon and Pool and possibly others b/c of it, when another option for 10.5 mill over 2 yrs slipped right through our fingers. TERRIBLE
His stock has been dropping because he hasn't signed who you wanted him to sign? Can't be blamed for Aso signing elsewhere ... and the Jets clearly wanted Edwards back but not at the price he was insisting on. Personally i have no issue with the offseason yet .. hell its not over yet.
If Cromartie wants that much, we need to walk away, if they were going to sell the farm they should have went $12M a year for A$$hole. Drop Cro and go with Wilson, fuck him and his agent.
I really think you going crazy with nate clements . He sucked the last few years he had a few good years but that was a long time ago . If i remember correctly he got benched in san fran this year . He couldn't even get on the field . Slow down with that
Braylon was never gonna be back, it sucks but apparently the Jets FO doesn't think too highly of him because of his attitude and contract demands.
This. The only excuse that can be made is that SF ran some heavily mixed coverages, including Cover 2. Nate never looked as comfortable lined up 7 to 10 yards off.
Just because Clements may no longer be in the top 10 CB's in the NFL does not mean he wouldn't be a perfect fit as our NUMBER 2 CB, especially at that price! Again, there is still the possibility KW could be our #2, so why invest $9mill per yr in Cromartie, who has off field baggage and is not physical? He cannot cover smaller shifty WR's and despite his good season last yr, he was not lock down and it was a contract year. If we are spending that much on a CB it should be a legit #1 CB, which Cromartie is not. Clements would have fit perfect as our #2 and would have allowed us to address many other needs.
And yes. Clements is your perfect man corner. There is no reason to break the bank on Cromartie. Who actually trusts Cromartie at $9mill per year? He will get his $$$ and we will see the same BS that we saw with him in SD, which will likely remind us of Sherry Rhodes.
maybe its for someone? asante samuels maybe? i hear the giant could have got him for a 2nd rounder next year I'll do that in a heartbeat
