I wonder what kind of football shape he's in. He's been away from the game, and obviously older. I can't bring myself to be excited about this.

The thing about being away from the game and obviously being older is that you don't lose your height and you don't lose your set of hands. He has a little over a month before the first game of the season, he will definitely be in shape. The only issues that could possibly arise are 1) how much slower he will be and 2) his hand-eye coordination with a defender in his face.

Overall, I think the Plax signing was a great move. Same type of player has Braylon and at half the price. Now let's go get Cro signed. :jets:

You can't be in football shape without playing football. It's as simple as that. No players in the NFL are in football shape yet, that's what camp is for.

Not a bad signing. Fitzgerald is FA next summer and it will be a nice addition. Plax will play his ass of to prove himself again. I think he will want 2-3 more years and to get a nice contract he has to play awesome next year

we're not getting fitzgerald, or anyone big name next year as a #2 wr. there's no cap room. we'll keep playing the rental/low risk/contract year carousel

my bet is we draft someone to be the #2 next year. OLB and WR will probably be taken rounds #1 and #2 for us next season.

No chance Cardinals let Fitz hit the open market, he'll be franchised if they can't sign him long term.

I was about to post this exact same point. Plax could very well be around for another 3 to 4 years with his style of play. WR is not running back were 30-33 is typically the death knell for a player. They get less touches and less abuse.

Someone can out and said that Braylon would have been better adn I ask why? He is not a burner, is a bit smaller and less physical. He's been ok for us, but its not as if we are losing an all pro caliber receiver. Edwards is a solid #2 guy or a border line #1 on a team with little to no receiving depth and not worth the big contraqct he is seeking. If his price was reasonable someteam would have snatched him up by now.

I wonder if Plax potentially not being in football shape will be somewhat equalized by everyone else not getting in any football work either during the lockout.

Not half the cost, but one third of the cost. I've heard Edwards wanted Santonio type money. Possibly aroun 8-9 mil.

$3mil is not overpaying. I was going to post this yesterday that anything over $3 mil for Plax would be bad. I guess we overpaid by $17k. We had competition from the Steelers. If we didn't sign Plax, we would've had to dole out much more cash for any decent option.

I almost don't mind us staying put for the CB position unless its some depth signing. I have a hunch Cro will be looking at Jonathan Joseph type money, around $9mil a yr. If he is ready for a one year deal around $6mil, then sure. I would rather like to see what Wilson brings to the table. He's got a yr worth of NFL experience. He should definitely be better than last year. I don't think we sign Cro in any case.

Every team in the NFL had players organized team activities. Players haven't missed much. The lockout affected the rookies progress the most, since they got no NFL coaching.

For one or two weeks, months ago. That means nothing now.

I really like this move by the Jets. We sign a solid receiver at a bargain (for the most part). I just really hope he kept in good shape and he has been doing a lot of conditioning.. I think it might take him a couple weeks to really make an impact.. Now we have that extra couple million dollars to go out and try to keep Cro or get another CB..

I know we didn't get Edward, but u are undervaluing his talent...and speed. Braylon is fast, physical, and he's tall. Not sure how u got totally the opposite opinion. He's fast and thats why his YPC is pretty high. He's 'usually' the deep guy. He definitely is physical. See the New England game where he took two all pros in to the end zone from 7-8 yards out. And he's definitely tall. 6'3 is not small by any means.

Edward had a near 1000-yard season with us on a team that has rushed the most over the last two years. You can't have 2400 yards rushing and also have a 4000 yards passer. We have a team with several passing options. Santonio, Edwards, Cotch, Keller, LT. All 5 of these has over 40 catches I believe.

If Edward was here this year, he would have surpassed 1k yards simply because we will be passing more this year than last year. I wanted Edward. His 2007 was not a fluke. He had Derek Anderson passing him jump balls that year. He has great hands and no one will argue with me there, but he may lack some concentration/focus from time to time with the drops, although he only had one drop the entire last season while the rest of the Jets receivers laid plenty of eggs.

Edward will get his big contract, and Edward does have the potential to be a pro bowler.

We've been in a lockout for about 4+ months. How long ago do u think teams had players OTAs? It may not be same as team organized, but its not exactly Vinny-like "sitting on the couch, lets play QB" deal. Coaches may not have been there, but players generally kept themselves in shape from all the reports I've read around the NFL.

Where? The teams with the cap space don't have the need, the teams with the need don't have the cap space. I think the guy's in a little bit of a hole now, and I feel for him - he hasn't done anything to deserve that. I think he's a legit #1 for someone, just not this summer.

Maybe the best thing he could do is see what he can get for a one year contract somewhere, play out of his skin and test FA again next year - although as has been pointed out already, as things stand next year's FA class is stacked with receivers.

Plax will be playing in NY again, only this time for us and not the Giants and for a coach he likes better and who gave him a much warmer reception and interview (see this morning's Star-Ledger article) than Coughlin did. Justin Tuck was the only player actively wooing Plax while Eli Manning all but ignored the Plax interview with Coughlin and acted as if he could care less. Real nice snub there also.

So yeah, bet your ass Plax has something to prove and what better place to do it than opposite the only other NY team right in the face of that team? And playing for a coach he says "stands behind his players and is constantly upbeat" (we all know Coughlin can be a real sourpuss and wet blanket) and for a QB who he knows will use his height and technique?

The more I think about this deal, the better I like it. And I'm not worried about football shape. He'll be in shape by September.
