Mixed feelings about this. As I said yesterday, I really didn't like this year's FA WR class after Braylon. I was hoping we'd still find a way to sign Edwards, but apparently that just wasn't going to happen. Having Plax for a year gives us the ability to address the position long term next year and draft a #2 that can grow with Mark. Having said that, $3 million guaranteed for a guy that we haven't actually worked out yet (according to reports, anyway) seems unbelievably risky. I really hope this works out for the team, and if he's close to who he was it will, but it's a bit of a head scratcher right now.
Very smart to sign him to a 1 year deal, that way if he's lost a step we can just not resign him. That fills the a void at WR, now go resign Cro!
I really doubt we go after another high priced receiver next season who bears striking similarities to Holmes aside from better lateral speed.
Exactly, who gives a shit if it's for $3 mil when it's a one year deal? The money almost doesn't even matter. If he works out, we can bring him back next year on a longer deal, if he doesn't then we let him walk. Great deal if you ask me.
Yep. I just wonder if, at some point, it's not worth the short rentals because maybe continuity gets lost? I don't know, maybe I'm just making a bigger deal about it than need be.
Yes yes yes. This only helps Mark if he's even 3/4 of what he was two years ago. The guy certainly will not be out of shape, but there's a difference between "in shape" and "in football shape".
We have Holmes Keller and Cotch back from last year. There's plenty of continuity but goddamn I wanted Braylon back after we lost out on Asomugha
this is how i feel dude is 34, missed two years and hasnt worked out for the team ... hes making money off of mike vicks success, success that vick didnt reach until his second year back in the league
Jets fans can't make fun of the Patriots' moves for Haynesworth and Ochocinco now. Have fun with a guy who hasn't played football in 2.5 years.
All I know is if he is working out great and a good team player in mid-season, we need to extend him before season end.
Better than getting TO or R. Moss hope we still make serious offer to Heap. Just need Corner and Safety help really still. i hope we get a breakout season from someone like Westerman for pass rushing specialist cuz we still are lacking there as well.
I don't like the loss of continuity either. It was a big part of why I felt Braylon was our #2 priority this offseason. Still, if he wasn't coming back, our options for a longer term receiver were absolutely terrible. A short term vet is a great idea from that perspective.
There's gotta be something going on with him that isn't public. He's not generating the slightest bit of interest
And how much of a chance is there of that happening considering he's 34 and hasn't played for 2 yrs? It took Vick one year to get back into football shape and he had a whole off-season, was younger, always had been more athletic etc etc... Think this move will bite us in the ass for this kind of money.
