We know too much, but its how these jokes and memes start that makes them awesome. I don't sleep, and an iPhone helps posting when I'm out and about and bored. I've posted in traffic. Its a great way to pass the time and not be pissed about bumper to bumper bullshit. I talk football on a nearly consistent basis. I'm the source for not only the jets to my friends, but for non jets fans as well. And I've turned two girls into Jets fans this past season (my goal this season is 4). That's my proudest accomplishment.... besides fucking them of course  The fact that they wanted to watch games and root for the Jets was awesome. The Lions OT win and a spanish chick after it? holy shit what a sunday that was. This board is the reason why I became a football mind. Petro is the man. Let's click some ads in honor of him haha
^^^ NDMick, that was a pretty forthright post. When I first became aware of this board it was like finding Christmas in April (NFL draft) and my impulsive enthusiasm about all things Jets at times got the better of me. What I didn't do and should've done was lurk before leaping. While I think I know a little bit about football from playing (and later staffing at camps), I also know that sitting out on the back deck with a blunt and a pino noir, logging onto this newly-discovered Jet toy (TGG) and impulsively/casually tossing out shit from memory usually isn't good money, esp. from a 'hazy-smokey' memory....e.g. "oh, it was Eric Mangini and NOT Herm Edwards who was the coach that game?...some posts I'd read the next day and cringe--mea maxima culpa. That said, again, good thoughtful post (guiness77's as well).
Joe...thanks...although I'm not cool enough to sit at the cool kids table most days (Lol) I like to consider myself a pretty level headed poster. I definitely don't (or try, I should say) try to insult people. I never played at any level in my life, and I don't play video games so my x's-and-o's are certainly not up to the level of certain guys who post here, but I've been a Jets fan and a NFL fan my whole life and I remember a lot of mundane shit. I've also seen a lot of losing over the years (as a lot of us older fans have...) so I think that's why I'm pretty level headed. We've been (mostly) a winning organization since Parcells had the keys, so I think some of the younger dudes are a little spoiled, so I attribute that to my levelheadedness.
To clarify my previous post for those easily distracted by the words "drunk driving", I was not comparing drunk driving to making offensive posts on an Internet forum - that's ridiculous. I was simply making the point that if someone knows they'll only receive a slap on the wrist for an offense, they'll continue to let their emotions get the better of them in exchange for the slap. However, if you threaten with a more serious punishment, or even increment the severity of the punishment for successive offenses, you're then forcing posters to put themselves in check. That was my point. What I recognize on this board, is about ~20 or so posters who are very like minded and often agree with one another on most topics, while the rest of the regulars just follow suit. What this usually leads to is a group of posters knocking any opposing opinions that come along, especially from newcomers. And I'm not referring to the "Madden GMs" or the new posters who are clearly bandwagon, 12-year-olds. I'm talking about reasonable posts by people who just have a different perspective. If they're just going to get harassed off the board, then what's the point of the forum? If TGG is going to be nothing more than the same ~50 or so opinion(s) reiterated ad nauseam, then why not shut down TGG, set these guys up with their own blogs, and email out the links so we can all bookmark them? Without back-and-forth discussion, it's not a forum. The board too often stifles *reasonable* opinions that differ from the common thinking, and it's often done in an aggressive, HS-bullying way. I've also learned quite a bit on this board since joining, even from some posters who I think are incredibly immature. Mr. E is a prime example of someone who often fills a thread with useful info/knowledge, only to derail it by getting into a flame war. In contrast, someone like WW85 is capable of filling a thread with equally as much info/knowledge, minus the BS flaming. Consider the possibility of a board full of great discussion, minus the childish BS. I hear a lot of what you're saying, and I feel fairly confident that I understand the culture of TGG. All I'm getting at is, as a frequenter of the site, I'd much rather read less name-calling/flaming/bullying posts, and more intelligent discussion and analysis of the Jets. And I think others would as well. As always, just my $0.02.
Dthomas...I agree with a lot of what you write. That said, as much as I love Jets football, I love to laugh even more. I don't consider myself a "popular poster" at all, and I don't participate in "bullying," but if I see the opportunity to get some people to chuckle, especially in a thread that's getting a little too serious, that's my chance to butt in. You say this board is all about opinion, so if I think someone's post is bullshit, I'm gonna say it. You can look through my history, I don't believe I've ever outright insulted anyone in my almost 3 years here. I might go for the laugh...hell, I always go for the laugh, but I'm not on this board to call people names.
I'm not against having fun or goofing off. In fact, I'm sure I've participated multiple times on this board. But some posters I feel go too far and, as a result, threads get polluted with trash talking. For the most part, I've come to ignore it and just read the useful posts, but occasionally it gets to me and I'll pick this same argument up where I left off. Call me stubborn.
How about banning some of these fucking people starting these dumb ass threads? Or Joey Knuckles for spamming the shit out of the NFL forum? I made my suggestions a page ago.
the dumb threads are a good pressure release for the forum, they unite people in hatred of the stupid. it's better when you get a "real" poster like champ or junc that will defend their ideas to the death but you have to take what you can get.
I know you are mostly negative and that is your gig but you are totally awesome in this thread! This too........ My .02, there have been a lot of names bandied about that would make great mods. I think this board is moderated fine. By fine, I mean excellent. They allow us to bust each others balls and have fun. I come here to freaking laugh about a sport and team I love, that's it. This nonsense of taking the internet serious is crazy. I love hockey and the main forum I belong to deletes joke posts, wtf is that baby shit? This forum is awesome, I spent all night the other night laughing my ass off at the Nmandi threads. We are talking football, not Astrophysics and peoples unique insights here are not going to change the world or bring on any revolutionary ideas. If you are not man enough to take an E-beating, ball busting or a sarcastic remark every now and again, there is a Pozzed forum for you................
