You are wrong. Iggy got banned, Badger's been banned, Abyz has been banned, Mr E has been banned. Those are pretty popular posters. Pats Hater has been banned. Puck has been banned (I think). Everyone seems to get their time in the penalty box. That whole "popularity" concept is usually for those who are inept at having very good football opinions. That's not necessarily directed at you, but those that harp on "he's popular so he gets special treatment!!" usually suck at discussing football.
Thank you for volunteering to prove my point. Considering numerous mods have posted in this thread already, I don't think I need to PM them. That said, let the experiment begin...
That's not strong enough. That's why. Now if he added something about fire and death and calling you a slang word for those who like the same sex, then that can do the trick. Maybe even adding "total fucking" to his insult could get him a day.
You're entitled to your opinion that you're being attacked or offended. Of course the mods and any other poster reading this thread are also entitled to their opinion, which may be that not only are you an idiot, but you're acting like a faggot as well.
What can get you a few days off is "calling people faggots, amongst other things" Which, IMO is hilarious.
If true, then fair enough, I was wrong - to a degree. If posters are repeat offenders, why are they allowed back? It seems pointless to have rules in place that basically say, "don't do this or you'll have to find something else to do for X number of hours/days." If an alcoholic knows the state will just keep giving him back his license, what's to deter him from continuing to drive drunk? A penalty box fixes nothing. The threat of a lifetime ban does. I think the main question at hand is, is this a site for the same group of ~20-50 posters to crack jokes on each other, harass/mock others for posting something they think is dumb, and bully newcomers, or is this a site where people can talk Jets football?
Did you really just compare getting banned on an online forum to drunk driving? What in the world is wrong with you? Is it a birth defect? Car accident? Daddy touch you? It's an online forum. Nobody gets hurt when I call you an idiot. Nobody dies when Mr.E calls you a faggot. No families are left without a provider because some called you a pole smoker. Stupid stupid stupid comparison.
You cannot compare posting on a message board to drinking and driving. Are you nuts? There are literally hundreds of people who post here and new people sign up daily. I don't see anything wrong with people breaking each other's shoes and laughing about. People on this site hang out in "real life" and tailgate at Jets games together and, of course, some of these people are going to tend to banter with those people more than some others. The one big point I'm trying to make, is that no posters get shunned by the quote-unquote TGG community, new posters do that to themselves. If you post some dumb shit that 95 percent of the board thinks is horseshit, then, you know what, if it walks like a duck....you're gonna get called out on posting some crap. How a new poster responds to said call out says a lot to the people that are already entrenched on the board. There are people that have joined in the last month, last year, last two years that post stuff and people respect it, because it's either a good post, or they responded well to get their balls broken. This place has the unique quality of weeding out the people who know this sport and this team apart from the people who think they do. I personally think you're a pretty good poster, but my opinion means shit.
That drunk driving comparison is one of the worst and most nonsensical I've ever seen, and this is the internet. A better question is, if you're here to talk Jets football, why do you feel the need to insert yourself as some kind of e-hall monitor? Obvious trolls get permanently banned, it's not in anyones interest to drive down membership or traffic to the site by kicking out posters that contribute but get a little rowdy once in awhile.
I have to agree with Iata here. It's a message board, the whole use of this word is a joke. Nobody's supposed to take it seriously. It's not the best word in the world, of course, but it's a MB and it's a joke. I can only speak for myself, but this is the last place anybody should take themselves so seriously. I love the Jets, and I love talking about them, but I come here for the laughs more than anything. Why bother otherwise? If it weren't for posters like Scruggy, like Badger, like Pam, like almost anyone who posts in BS section, I probably wouldn't post here a fraction of the time I do now.
The severity of a post is taken into account. You don't give someone the chair for a DUI. You don't lethally inject them for grand theft auto... however if you do "murder" a rule, then yes, the mods get to kill you off the board permanently. Some make new names, and do one of two things - 1)continue their bullshit and get banned again, or 2) show rehabilitation and are actually productive to the board. Well, cracking the board is like being the new kid at school. Coming out firing away with opinions that may not be accurate or insightful can get a new poster a bad rep. Its also because the new poster might be a troll, or just a horrible football mind, so the "bullying" begins to test those two theories. Sticking to an opinion that may be wrong or inaccurate or just not really where this team is going can make the start rough to a new poster. Its rare someone with under 100 posts is just good at being here. I did about a month of lurking and learning before I joined, and I didn't have strong opinions yet. I took into account what the truly elite posters thought was best for this team, and they ended up being right most of the time, so I learned the game from them, and now my opinions are respected. I don't piggyback off of anyone's opinions, I create my own. The good news is that they sometimes are the same as the guys who seem to be right 90% of the time. My football brain is a product of this board - I really didn't know this team, culture, or detailed history of the Jets, or how to analyze players, schemes, and the business itself before I got here. Now apparently I'm listened to. But there are a big handful of posters that are here, and that don't post here anymore, that indirectly attributed to that. I hope that helped.
haha, well some thing become memes on the board, so the leniency grows. There was a time where a bad thread was bombed with polar bears, or pizzas (actual pizzas), or underwater tigers. That doesn't happen anymore. As much as I want to continue that, it won't happen. It can get you some time off from the board.
hahahaha, I actually paused and thought about which word to use when I wrote pizza. I should have wordfiltered. Good looking out.
hahahah....we're probably on this site a little too much if this popped into both our heads almost immediately. Like I said earlier....I love talking about football. If I was still in my 20s and going out to bars and watching the games in the bars I used to go to and going out a lot, I don't know if I would be on a board. I have a family now, and I don't see my buddies as much anymore, so that's why I love to frequent this site. If I wasn't laughing my ass off, like I do the majority of the time I'm online, I wouldn't come here as much. I love hockey and college basketball and I'm on boards for those two sports as well, and I don't spend nearly as much time on those 2 boards combined than I spend here. I'm not trying to kiss anybody's ass, but Petro should take a bow. This is a great board.
