Ty Warren was released today by the Pats (could be to get into the Aso race). I wouldn't mind taking a look at him if he is healthy. He can play inside or outside on the line. He could provide quality depth. This would likely mean Ellis would be gone - which would be tough for me - but it may be a great option...Again if he is healthy.
the only thing that makes any sense is they don't think he is... otherwise why would you give up that crazy ass 3-4 DL of Warren-Wilfork-Haynesworth? That said, if healthy I would enjoy having an experienced DL who is still extremely good on the line to mentor the young guns...
He didn't fail his condition, all Patriots who took it passed. He stated that he was released because the Patriot's are going in a different direction defensively. Possibly implementing more of a 4-3 which would make the Haynesworth signing more logical. Cowboys or Texans would be a good spot for him as he has a Ranch in Texas. He stated that he's looking forward to wearing a "contending NFL Uniform" as well.
So my original suspicion is turning out to be what is actually happening up there in Foxboro? I'd snatch Warren in a heart beat. Really. This is a DE who can play two-gapping DL role. Having him means Wilkerson can go 1-on-1 without having to take 2 gapping responsibility. This means Shaun Ellis can play his Bruce Smith impersonation at will, provided the NT holds up his part of the bargain. (Which Pouha will do certainly, or Kendrick Ellis will do competently in time.) He will provide a lot of options to the defense.
If I had to guess the Pats are going to attempt a trade for Osi. We have pretty good CB's already (with Bodden healthy) so I'm not so sure I see the need for Jenkins or Aso but they would be a nice addition to anyone obviously. Nobody knows anything yet though.
That was a surprise. Tell you what, though. Of the list of players the Patriots just cut, Alge Crumpler would be worth pulling in.
If the Jets need another run blocker. His pass catching days are over but he's a 100% class guy and still a beast of a blocker. I'd hate to see him on our rivals though.
I was thinking in the same line - if they are going hard at 4-3, then they will attempt grabbing Kiwi or trade for Osi, as their OLBs are in real sorry state. I do think going 4-3 makes more sense for Patriots - against good power-running teams, going with 3-4 is not such a sensible idea, especially if that 3-4 happens to be Fairbanks-Bullough 3-4 with two bubbles (the kind Cheat runs up in Foxboro.) P.S. Still very surprised. Capable two-gapping DEs do not grow on trees. Is the upside Fat Albert provides so great to kick out a bedrock of the defense? Of the entire Patriots defense, Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork were two least problematic parts. Especially if you watch the playoff loss last year, you'd realize that it was the MLBs who failed their gap control against Mangold-Slauson blocking that led to almost 19 yard Tomlinson run. It was the secondary that allowed Cotchery to plow through 58 yards. It was the OLBs who constantly failed to get to Sanchez. As for Vince and Ty, they were doing all they could, eating up the blockers and generating lanes for pass rush. If Nnamdi deal falls through (I actually am hoping it does.) I hope Jets grab Braylon and Ty Warren. You can never have enough capable body up front, and you can never have enough quality pass rushers. Jets may not get their share of pass rushers this year, but they certainly can help themselves with capable body up front.

Ouch. Possibly. Well. I don't follow Patriots football as much. What can I say. When he was healthy though, he was very good. That much you'd have to admit. (And you also acknowledged he passed physical, meaning he's good to go.)
This. And apparently the rumor about him failing his conditioning is confirmed. Basically he skipped last offseason to get his degree in Texas, had surgery right before the season and goes on IR, then shows up and fails his conditioning this season (hamstring, unrelated to him being on IR last year). That's how you find yourself off a team.
We have a guy named Gerrard Warren, and he and Wilfork were our only decent (and consistently healthy) DL last year. Not the dumbest mistake ever made.
Ty was eating up blockers? He was IR'd last year. Thanks for your analysis, it holds a lot of weight.
