Well they DID beat the Steelers earlier in the year, and it's not like they got blown out in the AFC championship. The people we're talking about bringing back are all relatively young and talented. Keeping that group together in Rex's system will only result in higher levels of production. Yes Aso would be an immediate upgrade...but re-signing Cromartie/Braylon would scare our opponents almost as much. Alot of prime talent between Holmes/Cromartie/Edwards and they'd no longer be "Rentals" like all the naysayers alluded to last season.that means chemistry, continuity and upside
The beauty of Asomugha is also the insurance it provides us if Revis were to get injured again. How many teams can lose their top corner and not even blink?
From ESPN: Nnamdi is being pursued by 49ers and Jets. Houston is going after Jonathan Joseph so looks like the Texans may be falling back a little on the Aso race...
What makes you say that? From an outsider's perspective, it seems to me that the Texans need to add the best cornerback that they can this offseason. If they miss out on Asomugha, the best CB on the market is either Joseph or Cro, and we know that Cromartie will go to whichever team pays him. The Texans landing him seems perfectly plausible to me.
Jonathan Joseph is a much better target for the Texans. They can sign him and still have the flexibility to go after other guys.
The reason the Jets didn't beat the Steelers in the playoffs was because they shockingly couldn't tackle for some reason in the first half and got run all over. That was not a season long problem, it was just one of those fluke things pretty much. I don't think anybody would say the Jets badly need to improve their run defense. The talent on this team was there last year. But the key is to stay one step ahead of teams that have QB's like Brady, Manning, Rivers, Rodgers. Adding Asomugha adds a whole new dimension to our defense that no other team can even come close to matching. I don't think standing pat is Tanny's way. He's always looking for a way to improve the team and get better. This would do it.
So instead of offering $12 mil-$14 mil the texans have gone to 3rd in the chase in a span of 2 hours? Lets relax people...Logic says he should come here, so believe rather then going into the various rumors that are all different at the moment. Unless these rumors are the same one cannot believe any
I really have a good feeling we are going to land Aso (knocks on wood).. and Cro would be a great fit for the Texans I think...
Too many off the field issues. I don't agree with it, but it is an obvious policy. they only sign character guys. No scandals is more important than winning.
Maybe.. but he also said he wants to win some games for a change. 49ers would be behind both the Jets and Texans in that department I think.
Remember when everybody said how amazing it would be if somehow we could find a way to sign back Holmes + Edwards + Cro, however impossible seemed at the time? Or at least Holmes + Edwards, and take our chances with K-dub + Revis + Rex on the D? I don't think we're in a bid war with the other teams, I think (hope) we've placed an offer and we're just waiting to see what Aso says. I also expect that they called Edwards + Cro yesterday to tell them "if you want to play in here give me 24 hours more to see what can we do".
Maybe, but keep in mind Sanchez will ideally become a lot better, Greene will be better, and so will other guys on the team, so that their improvements offset any losses we might suffer.
I am not defending their policy just letting you guys know they will not go after him. They will chase Aso and JJ for CB.
