The 2nd CB isn't getting much advertising money regardless of if it's in New York or not. It's a quarterback, and to a lesser extent a RB/WR league as far as endorsements go. There are a couple guys on defense like Polamalu who get exposure, but coming here, he'd be second fiddle to Revis anyways.

I disagree. They had one of the worst passing defenses in the league last year, they don't add Nnamdi they are still the worst. Another year to study Foster will help defenses slow him down. They aren't going to win the division and the wild card is unlikely.

On Clements, to clarify, 49ers save $7.25M cash (base salary) and $15M in cap space. But I'd be surprised at this point if they get Nnamdi

    and then John Clayton

The 49ers release of cornerback Nate Clements clears $15.7 million of cap room. That should put them in the Nnamdi hunt

Damn it's like traveling back in time to 2007. People have been saying this for the last 4-5 years. The Texans may not suck, but they are mediocrity personified.

If we end up not getting Aso, let's at least lock up Cro & Bray. We made it to the AFC championship without Nnamdi, we can do it again

    Niners still trying?

With the two sides unable to reach agreement on a paycut, the 49ers officially told CB Nate Clements they will be releasing him.

Full year with Holmes could potentially swing a few more home playoff games.

There you have the Aso saga in a nutshell.

They are in. They are out. They are the frontrunners. No, they are the frontrunners.

Seems like nobody has a clue.

With or without Aso, I'm not really sure as to why anyone would predict the Texans to make the playoffs this up coming season. They're coming off a 6-10 season.

    (In no specific order).

    Steelers
    Jets
    Patriots
    Colts
    Ravens
    Chargers

I can't picture the Texans beating out any one of those teams for a playoff birth next season. Even the Chiefs and Jags have better overall football teams when compared to the Texans.

    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2011/07/jets_pursue_nnamdi_asomugha_af.html

Darrelle Revis, the elite cornerback the Jets do have under contract, counts Asomugha as a friend and said they have talked about playing together, including at last season’s Pro Bowl. Revis said he hasn’t been actively recruiting Asomugha but would be thrilled if he came to the Jets.

“He’s the best cornerback in the league, and me and him as a tandem would be unbelievable,” Revis said during a conference call. “I would love to have him as a teammate.”

Revis said his impression was that as soon as the team reached an agreement with Holmes, its focus in free agency became Asomugha.

Last summer, a sticking point for Revis’ camp during his contract holdout was his desire to top Asomugha’s salary and be the league’s highest-paid corner. But Revis said he isn’t concerned about what the Jets might need to pay Asomugha, adding that he wants a championship-caliber team and Asomugha deserves “top dollar.”

Revis, who is due $7 million in base salary this year and an $18 million option bonus, could help clear cap space for his team by reworking his deal. He said the team has not approached him yet about doing so; when asked if he would, he said that would be a “private” matter between him and his agents.

I believe he thinks winning is more important than money.

Many great players want that SB ring to solidify their place in the HOF and among the all time greats. Marino has said he would of gave up the money for the ring and Kelly has said similar.

He is 30 years old and in CB turns that getting long in the tooth. I belive he would let 1M a year on the table, but 2M or more would be hard to leave and I won't blame him.

unless the niners sign johnathan joseph he'll prolly be a texan or a niner.

theyre trying to see how much they can get out of the jets and seems the jets have hit their ceiling.

then again rumors change so fast.

lombardi was just saying Texans take the lead throwing in the fact theyll make the highest offer and not state income tax.

we'll see if aso wants to win games or continue banking

Houston never gets the big free agent. The Texans never sign or pursue big free agents. Houston is often used in bidding wars.

That being said I think an unknown of $$$ from endorsements compared to an known of $$$ in state income tax is substantial.

Exactly. If we fail to sign Aso, I'd love to see Cromartie and Edwards back with the Jets.

    Plan A) Aso.

    Plan B) Edwards and Cromartie.

Plan C) Edwards and Johnathan Joseph.

Plan D) Edwards and Nate Clements.

I've always enjoyed watching Nate play and feel he'd be the next best option after Cromartie and Joseph. Either way, if we fail to sign Aso we need Edwards and one of those CB's.

The Texans are better than people here seem to think. A lot of talent on that roster.
