Redskins get a 5th round pick in 2013. Patriots only have to pay $5 million this year. This is according to Schefter.

Just heard on mike and mike and almost swerved off the road...

How do they keep getting these steals?

And the fact that he is only going to cost them 5 million is amazing

    Nick Mangold.

I'd love to see him try to injure a Jet. He'll get killed if he tries anything.

I dont think so, the skins mis-used him and have their own issues - look what they did to McNabb - I think he will do very well for the patriots (sadly)

Huge steal for the Patriots if he can stay in line. They play multiple fronts a lot so he'll be in the mix to play RDE in the 3-4 and next to Wilfork in the 4-3 which would help out the pass rush. Him, Wilfork, and a healthy Ty Warren in a 3-4 would be great if Pepper and Belichick can motivate Big Al. If not, well they can cut him because they have a lot of depth with Stroud, Pryor, and Brace.

Mike Greenberg sounds like he's going to throw up!!!!

Ugh, this is another Moss-like trade for them. Of course Moss had an expiration date and so will Haynesworth but until then they'll get the dominant player for a few years.

a 5th round pick, two years from now? yeah thats a pretty good deal for any team....

well whatever, he will start bitching about not being paid properly in 5 months anyways. Until then though, he is going to make it tough as nails to run on them. Good thing we will have a passing attack this year...

Wait...wasn't his whole problem in D.C. with the 3-4, and not wanting to play in that system?

The Patriots don't play much of a 3-4 anymore. They play a ton of multiple fronts. Belichick will find ways to use him, but the question is if Haynesworth will be motivated to play.

For 6 to 12 games, he will help them. Good move by NE as always.

When reached for comment, Belichick responded: Trolololololol

Good trade for them as they continue to move away from the 3-4. No risk high reward deal

I think it'll work well for them. Because they are predominantly 3-4, he might be on the field a little less, which, considering his apparent lack of stamina, is good. Plus, he'll be a perfect fit in the occasional 4-3 front next to Wilfork. It'll be tough to run on them and Belichick will make it work.
Not the end of the world, but it's a good pickup.

Except they aren't a predominantly 3-4 team anymore. In 1,101 defensive plays charted by ESPNBoston.com, they were in something other than a 3-4 for 628 plays(57%) and in a base 3-4 441 times(40%). The other 32 snaps were goal line or short yardage situations.

Haynesworth will be used in a number of ways.

Like it was easy with Wilfork, This move seems odd, Are the Pats going to a 4 -3. I thought Albert made a stink in DC because they changed to a 3 - 4. Why would the Pats bring in a guy who doesn't like their system and has prooved to be a cancer on a team when it suits him?

Great player but there is great risk here as well. for a 5th rounder I guess it is worth the risk. not that I like it.
