I would rather keep Braylon and try to keep Cro or go after another CB. This is just a waste of money. How often did the 2nd receiver on a team kill us last year? Not much, it was always the 3rd, 4th, and 5th options. Waste of money IMO.
I don't think the Eagles are gonna get Nnamdi because they're most likely trading Kevin Kolb for a CB
Mods, please merge the other Asomugha thread with this one since I have a far more interesting first post (with pretty colors.)
I have the Asomania... again! You know Rex has been drawing up plays for this situation ever since the Pro Bowl 2 seasons ago.
I would normally agree except with this one exception of Aso. If Aso becomes a Jet then my grandma could provide a pass rush. Teams would have nowhere to throw to.
Come on man, I know you're smarter than that. If you are allowed to completely single cover on the outside you can get way more creative in shutting down the middle of the field. Signing Aso does a TON more than just help eliminate an opposing teams #2 receiver.
Another overlooked potential future benefit to Aso is that he may outperform Revis. If we can get Aso to sign for Revis money or less, and he outperforms Revis, then Revis could be dissuaded to hold out in the future and/or have to take less when his deal expires.
I am more concerned with giving Sanchez the best possible weapons rather than having the 2 most expensive corners in the NFL covering other teams' #1 wr plus, most often, far lesser quality #2 WR. Most teams don't have a pair of WRs worthy of being covered by that much salary and future cap space at CB. I guess I am in the minority in thinking Aso + Revis is an imprudent investment vs retaining Edwards and having him start along with #10. Especially when we spent a 1st rounder at CB last year. I'd rather take the Aso money and spend it on Braylon + another CB and other position to fill needs and provide depth.
Exactly. By having Darrelle Revis and Nnamdi Asomugha completely shut down both sides of the field with man-to-man coverage... That would then give Rex Ryan and the Jets defense the ability to use both Safeties in A) Focusing on the run. B) Double teaming either the slot WR or TE and C) Playing the flats for opposing RB's coming out of the backfield. Anyone who feels Aso would only shut down #2 WR's, while being a waste of money at the same time must not truly understand the game of football. It would also be a thing of beauty watching us stick Revis on Welker with Aso taking out Brady's #2 option (either Hernandez or Gronk).
