If this happens, Rex will pick up a notebook and start making plays to blitz the QB like setting starving dogs on a pile of bacon. I also like how most of us thinking getting Aso really wouldn't be possible if you wanted to keep a good WR crew. Thanks Tanny, for being so damn good at what you do
For a player that could get 18 mil a season, it's fine with me. I don't care if he's over 30 - this guy is the next Troy Vincent. His career will be extended when he makes the move to safety.
Comes down to playing for a team that will contend during the length of a contract with the Jets or going someplace and be involved in a building process or a get over the hump process. Some of these guys that have money in the bank want to feel what it is like to go out every week with the true belief that you will win and come December you are playing games that matter. Huge + for the Jets signing anyone
We've known all along that a lot of teams will be able to pay him more than us. He'll sign in New York for different reasons.
Also, ND - apparently we're able to offer him 12 mil a year before restructuring deals and making cuts. That's pretty amazing.
As I keep reading those reports, I can't help but think if he wanted to play for a shitty team in the same sitty, he could have simply raped Al Davis again, right? Is there any doubt Davis would have broken the bank for him again, or am I reaching at straws?
If the cap number isn't stupid, then I guess its okay. I shouldn't be stressing about numbers considering Harris' contract hasn't gotten done yet. A fifth of the cap will be in one position, but I guess its warranted for the best CB tandem in history.
haha yeah I realized that as I typed out my post above. Harris will knock off another 5-6 mil off the cap number, that should be enough to resign the lower tier FAs on the Jets target list.
If this move goes down, I think we'll see Asomugha line up at safety some, especially if Kyle Wilson is ready to play on the outside. The versatility of our defensive backfield will be fucking ridiculous.
My prediction is that Asomugha will not come. I think he will take the money from the Texans, who are also projected to be a good team. However, I'd be thrilled if he became a Jet.
I see why you have reservations, but his open market value is probably around $15-16 million per. If we get the second best cornerback in football for $12 mil a year, it would be a bargain. I still don't see Asomugha leaving all that money on the table. But if he does, holy shit, tell the '86 Bears to look out.
That's just it, this isn't crazy crap hyped up fans are talking about. That shit would literally be historic. Man this is exciting!
I'm assuming that number to be the average. I would guess he'd make 3 mil less this season and 3 mil more another. Still pretty crazy. Id really hope we can fit a Braylon into that if not Plax.
