2011 Starters: David Harris – 5th Year: Harris, the centerpiece of the defense signed a 4-year deal before the start of the season. Harris is a able to shed blockers and make plays in the middle of the field on a consistent basis, a solid tackler, rarely misses. Show good range and plays with intelligence, and under-rated blitzer. He will occasionally take himself out of a play by being overly aggressive, but a complete MLB who will make the pro-bowl someday, tends to get overshadowed due to his reserve nature by Scott. With the revamped D-Line, I expect a big year from Harris. Bart Scott – 10th Year: Scott is the voice of the Defense, and extension of Ryan out on the field. His vocal leadership helps to make-up for some of the weaknesses in his game. Bart does a great job of filling in holes and fearlessly taking on blockers to allow his teammates to make the plays. He has good range and delivers big hits, decent pass defender and is able to create some pressure when blitzing, but seems to get blocked and stood up more times than not. Struggles to cover ground a lot of ground. Scott is a solid starter, but his key contributions are his leadership and knowledge of the Defense. 2011 Back-ups: Brashton Satele – 1st Year: Satele spent most of last season with the Jets, putting his deams of opening up his own pizza restaurant on hold for the time being. He doesn’t have ideal size, but has good speed, probably best suited for special teams. He has battled injuries throughout his collegiate career and if memory serve, training camp last season. Josh Mauga – 2nd Year: Mauga was activated from the practice squad half way through the season and played on special teams and sparingly on defense. He has good physical attributes, good speed, size, athleticism and focus which have allowed him to make plays at the collegiate level. He needs to learn to play with more patience and not overplay the ball. Health has also been a concern with him in the past, will need to be more durable. Nick Bellore: Bellore is not a great athlete, but he is instinctual and was probably a top 10 inside linebacker in the past draft class. He could provide some toughness in sub packages and on special teams.http://www.nyjetsdraft.com/2011/07/jets-rookie-free-agent-signings/ Received praise from Rex after the second practice. 2011 Unrestricted Free Agents: Lance Laury – 6th Year: Laundry has good mobility (even though he has a funny walk), and is able to cover a good amount of ground in short ranges. Has the quickness to allow him to play the run. Not a big playmaker on Defense, more of a special teamer. Does not possess the instincts to be a regular contributor on defense. A special teams ace that the Jets signed as a free-agent last season who did not seem to make a who lot of big plays on special teams? I do not anticipate the Jets re-signing him, but depending on the free-agent rules next season and lack of depth at MLB, they may be forced to. 2011 Overview: The Jets a solid, above average group of starting MLB’s for their defense. Unfortunately, they have absolutely no depth behind them. This is another position they failed to improve upon in the draft, and will need to do something in free agency in order to provide depth and security.
I think if Wilkerson can rip the opponents OLine guys like David Harris and Bart Scott will look a lot better.
This is the first one of these I've opened and I don't see Josh Mauga listed anywhere. Do they get better?
I had him at OLB, now that I think about it, you might be correct, I think he was an ILB, I will move him over.
