Doesn't Revis become a free agent in 2014 if he doesn't hold out? If you convert most of his 7 million salary to a bonus this year you create $6 million in 2011 cap space but then don't you have a $12 million plus cap hit in 2014 if he leaves?
Revis probably texted Sanchez and told him to chill the fuck out with saying that shit. The guy held out a month for a contract. He's not gonna put money back on the table a year later.
Too many numbers for me. The simplest way I can explain it is Revis has no incentive to restructure because it would require moving money into years that he isn't planning on playing under his current deal. Basically to restructure revis this year means he has no reason not to hold out next summer for a bigger deal.
Here's Nacho's press conference: http://www.newyorkjets.com/photos-a...nference/4872a9d8-d7a1-43de-b53a-64959304da6b
It wouldn't be giving money back. It would be restructuring to lower the salary cap hit and then compensating him with a bonus which would subsidize the difference between the two. The bonus wouldn't count against the cap. Mark is eager to restructure because wouldn't necessarily be losing money. The only difference would be if you take a 4 million dollar bonus, you get taxed on that 4 million lump sum as apposed to just getting taxed on your weekly or bi-weekly wages.
The Kid is special, isn't he...Hard not to like him even if your a fan of another team. If he takes us to the promise land , he will sit forever in Jets lore, side by side with old Joe Wille..
Well... If Revis is smart he will restructure.... He gives a few back this year, and gets a few mil more next year, while getting an extension in the process...
I'm sure. I doubt we'd offer him such a deal. The reason Revis isn't restructuring is because Tanny doesn't want to add to his insane deal. Restructuring like we're going to do with Sanchez is usually in the player's best interest. It just adds guaranteed money to their deal more often than not, and keeps them from getting cut in future non-guaranteed deals. Not a big deal with Sanchez since we're gonna sink or swim with him regardless, but we probably don't want Revis, Scott or Pace to restructure like that for instance. Do you really want a $14M revis cap hit in 2012? Or a $10M hit for Pace? A hit which also makes the guys largely uncuttable down the road. I love Mark, but he's not costing himself anything this year by doing this I'm gonna bet. Maybe he'll surprise me and actually take less money, but I doubt it.
Revis might restructure to sign Nnamdi... I know him and Aso talked about being together so if he really wants it, its in his hands
Nice "warm & fuzzy" thought. But given what the Jets went through during last year's "Hard Knocks" training camp with a contract that still had years left on the table (Rex: "Reeevis, come home..") , do you really think Revis would? just askin'
Revis can hold out regardless of what the contract says. he just doesn't show up. Holding out is not prevented by a contract. Any provision that threatens to penalize a player for holding out would be waived as part of the new deal.
Tell me exactly the structure of the deal that Revis would sign that makes sense for him and the jets and show how it decreases his cap hit this year. I really don't think what you're suggesting works. PS he's signed for 6 years; he can't even extend it if he wants to.
