Per Roto: The Jets have reportedly extended a long-term contract offer to free agent Santonio Holmes. The Jets extended the offer just as the Redskins were locking up Santonio Holmes. ESPN New York's Rich Cimini predicts the Jets will "wrap up" a deal with Holmes with the next 48 hours. GM Mike Tannenbaum has made it clear that Holmes is his top priorit
really? Cotch is done in about 2 years. theres way more to it than Braylon can run block. ppl bring it up because Holmes simply cant
I doubt we hear that Santonio "rejects" our offer. I don't expect him to agree with the Jets tonight, they probably will tweak the deal a bit, maybe test the water a little more before they sign.
Great news for the Jets. I'll take Holmes on my team any day of the week and twice during clutch moments on football Sunday's. I guess the main reasons why I want Edwards over Holmes is because of Braylon's overall size at 6'3/214 pounds when compared to Holmes who's only 5'11/192 pounds. Braylon also has much better run blocking ability. Braylon has been in the league for 6 years with 90 games played, 326 catches, 5,142 yards, average of 15.8 yards per catch, a long of 80 yards, 39 TD's, 236 first downs and 5 fumbles. Santonio has been in the league for 5 years with 72 games played, 287 catches, 4581 yards, average of 16.0 yards per catch, a long of 83 yards, 26 TD's, 222 first downs, 3 fumbles. Either way... Unless we sign both WR's, I believe it's safe to say we're losing a talented wide out this offseason.
Schefter about to talk about a "deal that may put the Jets over the top" on ESPN sportcenter coming up. I assume its the Holmes deal that guy posted. I want to see the numbers....
I'm not going to look into Cimini's prediction. That's speculative bullshit I won't entertain. Its clear that Holmes' film just outright beats out Braylon's. Route running, catching (excluding drops, I know), dynamic plays, separation, etc. Holmes is a better WR.
Agreed, and Holmes can carry his team and get those extra yards that Braylon can't. Just watch the final drive of Super Bowl 43. Ben just threw small passes to Holmes that turned into huge yards. Burress can fill Edwards role and might even be better in the redzone.
Plax isn't going to do anything this year. He's 33, he's out of football for 2 years, that quick twitch ability goes away in prision. He doesn't have the insane athleticism of Mike Vick, and he's older than Vick. Plax shouldn't come near this team. He can go to a rebuilding team or an emerging team. Not a playoff contender.
Plax has always been a guy who relied on solid route running and, most importantly, being 6'5". He may have gotten ass rammed a few times and I'm not sure about this (would need somebody like philly stacks or soxxx to confirm) I don't think getting ass raped makes you any shorter. I also remember him being a pretty decent run blocker
I love when ESPN does that, they hype up something and nothing happens. I wish I had NFLN so I didnt have to watch this shit.
