I personally would love to keep Brad Smith and I have no heard much in regards to our chances of resigning him. What kind of money does he want? Since it looks like we're losing Holmes or Braylon we're gonna need a solid number 3 receiver and I think Brad can really step up into this role like he has in the past. No to mention how awesome he is on Special Teams.
Brad Smith's done basically nothing as a receiver. He's a gimmick player on offense. His value is on special teams and some team will overpay him.
My issue with giving Brad money is Westy. I feel we can plug just about anyone in on ST and they will contribute. As much? Maybe not at first. As for a WR and wildcat specialist i dont know. We have far greater needs. Where is the Drew Coleman Free Agent thread?
Wow we are going to be losing alot of big pieces of our team this year.. I guess I could've expected that after all the big players we went out and got to make a run last year.. I just really hope Tanny makes some smart moves to replace those players. We really need to focus on improving our offense because our defense will be good regardless...
What you say is true ... but few, if any of our players have made more big, game-changing plays for us during the last 25 games or so. Someone will pay him big money and he'll go. He's been great on the field and he's always been a class act. He deserves what he can get.
Brad Smith isn't a big player. He's a nice card to have up your sleeve but by no means a priority on this team. It will suck to lose him but he is as much a product of Westhoff's Special Teams unit as he is talented. The wildcat disappears (which is fine since Sanchez has to take over full-time) and ST may take a small hit. No big deal since Kickoffs have been moved forward anyway and he didn't return punts. Let a team overpay for him and he can continue on elsewhere. The guy deserves the money he will be offered. It's a shame the Jets have no room for him.
It's just like Leon last year. Love 'em both and they have been great Jets, but you can't keep everybody. I agree somebody will offer him a nice contract and he will and should take it.
You rarely give a 2nd contract to a special teams player. Brad Smith is a great special teams player and some team is going to overpay for him.
People felt that way about Leon Washinton... and then Brad Smith stepped in. Replaceable players are replaceable. I do thank Smith for his time here. He was awesome, but value/production doesn't match what the Jets are willing to pay and what he wants in this market.
I don't think its anything like Leon. The only similarity is that they both returned kickoffs. Leon was way overvalued by everyone, including his wife and agent. People on here at one time thought he was OUR BEST PLAYER! give me a break. I don't think anyone thinks Brad is our best player. BS doesn't fit any perfectly definable role. He isn't a great reciever. He isn't a QB. He is an above average KR but does way more on ST than that. I'm not sure we fully utilize his potential, but I'm not sure any other team would either. Some on here wanted to see more of him in the wildcat particularly passing. Others thought we needed to keep Sanchez under center more and not affect his rythm. I think he's actually worth more to us than any other team. Will we pay him? Not sure. There just may not be any money left for him. Without a salary cap, no way would we let him go. He has been exciting to watch from the moment he stepped on the field the first time. I hope going to another team doesn't mean the end of his career, I will always be a BS fan.
Right now henis the#1 and likely to be the #2 going into the year unless Tanny pulls some voodoo shit.
Guy is a no 4 receiver who teams will get overly excited for and pay $5-7 million too much for him , but I hope fo rhis sake he gets it.Always gave 100% and thats all we ever want or ask for...Vernon!
Right now he is #1. When/if Edwards or Holmes is resigned, Cotchery is #2. If both are resigned Catch returns to #3. As for Smith, I believe the Jets feel they drafted his replacement.
