Makes sense. Most teams will only allow him to return kicks and be the 3rd/4th wr. Here, he gets to return kicks, be the 3rd/4th wr and run the wildcard formation 3/4 times a game.
I'm sure any team that signs Smith would impliment the Seminole/Wildcat package given his success in it.
Worst case scenario he is Terance Mathis part deux. Never really did much as a receiver on the Jets, then goes somewhere else and BOOM, 100+ catches.
I don't get this next tweet... so if camp opens July 28 for some teams, their signed free agents can't report til August 2nd? Dumb.
Jets and Texans are the last preseason game of the first week. I think everyone is reporting a week before their first scheduled preseason game and it just so happens, of course, that our team is last on the list.
Any predictions on who the Jets lock up first? Braylon Edwards sounds like he wants to be here more most guys - if Tannenbaum is willing to work with him, he'll get signed quick. It just depends on how things with Santonio Holmes go.
I really don't think the Jets will make a move on Edwards before Holmes. I think it's clear the Jets value Holmes as their top priority and will want to have that situation settled one way another before either moving on to Edwards as option B, or seeing how much they have left for Edwards if Holmes is signed.
I think this is right. I bet you they'll work out a deal with Braylon, but hold off on signing it until they can take Holmes' temperature. I don't think they're going to expect to be able to sign them both, may feel that it's safe to wait with Edwards until the Holmes situation is resolved.
Because they are that badass. And because they are going to be doing some serious work this FA period....
No way they give Braylon a long term deal without getting an indication of what Holmes' value is first, and to do that, they have to wait until he's approached by other teams. I guess they could sign Braylon to a one year deal, but he'll want to test the market for a long term deal before signing a one year deal with us. I could see the Jets locking up Eric Smith and Ellis to deals right away.
It's sad that you're doing it at such a slow pace. We have every reason to be fired up today. Is it sad that I have a mountain of work to do and all I am doing is browsing TGG and looking for NFL updates? Probably...
Signed players will be allowed in team facilities, even if their contract doesn't kick in until August 2nd.
