Am I the only one who didnt think the movies were that good?

I watched all three twice. One of the times i even saw all of them within a week period and I really didn't think it was all that great.

The first was great, the second was good, the third was amazing. If you didn't like them, you probably aren't a huge fan of the genre either.

Looks great! For those who did not read it though, they will expect a Lord of the Rings-like story, but the actual Hobbit story is short and to the point with one main mission, that is pretty minor in terms of Middle Earth. I am sure they are adding a lot of things since they are making 2 films.

This is why I think the quality of these movies is much more questionable than it was for the LotR movies. Those movies had far more material to draw on than they could possibly use, and it was of epic character. The Hobbit is actually a relatively simple story that only takes on gravity in the context of the later books. I am concerned that they will cram these movies full of new garbage to try to make the story much more monumental than it actually is.

I'll still go see them, of course - I have a 40+ year history with these books!

The hobbit has been revised in book form to fit in with the LOTR books so as long as it is within the context of the canon it should be fine. I think 2 movies is a bit much though.

Circles and rings, dragons and kings
Weaving a charm and a spell
Blessed by the night, holy and bright
Called by the toll of the bell....

Look at it this way...the first 10 chapters get you to the escape from Mirkwood (in the Barrels..) The last 10 chapters are the majority of he action.

Almost exactly like FOTR, and T2T.

The only real battle in FOTR is the very end where Boromir dies.

I can see the first movie as character and story development, emphasis on Gollum and the ring, and the second as the action half....

End of the first movie, they are in the barrels floating downriver...beginning of the second, same scene.
