When the 1993 antitrust lawsuit was settled, all the lead plaintiffs were exempt from the tag for their careers.
What pisses me off is that this faggot knows (1) the Colts are going to offer him whatever contract he wants in terms of length and money and (2) he's going to sign it. He's what, 37? so the odds are this is his last contract and he really doesn't have to worry about being franchised. And if he is, so fucking what. He's already has his big payday, he's made money hand over fist both from the Colts and in endorsements. At least Mankins and Jackson are legitimately (but stupidly) looking for their first big pay day. Manning's little 11th hour powerplay makes little sense and makes me hate him more.
