Clayton was just going through the list of teams way under the cap. It's crazy Tampa Bay might have to spend $50 million just to get in compliance with the cap floor. Jets stand at $1.2 mill over.
It's likely a case of taking a shot at getting something. Most likely it is their agents who have asked for this. No way they'll really try to hold things up... it would be career suicide, they still have to play with the other 2000 guys for the rest of their careers. Kessler, on the other hand, has done everything in his power the fuck up the works. Shit like asking for $320mil in benifits for last year that THEY negotiated out of the last CBA in exchange for no salary cap? The NFLPA* needs to get rid of this dud(e). Let's just play some fuckin' football! The only silver lining is that the next two weeks will be crazy with action!
Another report from your home town (I think) about Manning and Brees jumping on the "I'm special" bandwagon: http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2011/07/brees_manning_r.html Brees, Manning request own settlement terms By Greg A. Bedard, Globe staff Earlier we outlined what Brady v. NFL lead plaintiffs Logan Mankins and Vincent Jackson were requesting to settle the lawsuit. An NFL source with direct knowledge of negotiations said Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Drew Brees of the New Orleans are requesting to be exempt from the franchise tag for the rest of their careers. That means Manning, who was tagged by the Colts before the lockout, wants to become an unrestricted free agent now. Brees' contract is up after this season. The NFL feels this is a last-ditch power play being orchestrated by NFLPA lead counsel Jeff Kessler, who has long been a thorn in the NFL's side, and powerful agent Tom Condon, who represents Manning and Brees. If you remember, just last week Manning and Brees, along with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, were calling on NFL owners to make a deal because the NFLPA's offer was fair. "We believe the overall proposal made by the players is fair for both sides and it is time to get this deal done," the statement read. "This is the time of year we as players turn our attention to the game on the field. We hope the owners feel the same way." The request from Manning and Brees is not without precedent. When the 1993 antitrust lawsuit was settled, all the lead plaintiffs were exempt from the tag for their careers.
What pisses me off is that this faggot knows (1) the Colts are going to offer him whatever contract he wants in terms of length and money and (2) he's going to sign it. He's what, 37? so the odds are this is his last contract and he really doesn't have to worry about being franchised. And if he is, so fucking what. He's already has his big payday, he's made money hand over fist both from the Colts and in endorsements. At least Mankins and Jackson are legitimately (but stupidly) looking for their first big pay day. Manning's little 11th hour powerplay makes little sense and makes me hate him more.
So look who's holding up the works again. It's our favorite bloodsucking fuck-stick Neil Schwartz. I think next year he's going to try and get Christmas cancelled.
my clients did not get their red ranger bb gun for christmas, we demand $10 million dollars or a red ranger bb gun or we will file an injunction against santa and his whore wife.
Why didn't they do their bitching earlier? WE WANT FOOTBALL! I have a solution, kick those two douches out of the league and hang their asshole agent. They can go pull this shit in Canada.
If you mean teams these are the ones most screwed (according to Clayton): We're at $1.2 mill over but that's within the margin of error for Tanny magic, so we're even to slightly under.
