This isn't my understanding of how option bonuses are paid. I believe they are all paid upfront, but the cap hit is spread out over several years. Is this wrong?
It's probably wrong. I don't know much about cap numbers and the team's salary situation at the moment, because everything is still very unclear, but yea...you're probably wrong. After that Wade Phillips question you asked in another thread, it's just hard for me to take you seriously.
Ok, so I was a little melodramatic, big deal, I am passionite about my team. I don't care how it goes down, if we lose Holmes and Cromartie, then we are going to take a hit. All you genuises tell me all our DB's who are signed RIGHT NOW including safties. And one of them is coming off a broken leg Tell me!!!! If we bring in ANY new guys, ANY, WR's or DB's they have no off season to learn our playbook. Its imperative that we sign either Holmes or Edwards, Cro, Poole, Smith and James....? This is not a normal off season. The team with the least amount of turnover has a huge advantage. All I am saying is the possiblity exists with NFL teams now required to spend % of cap all it takes is 2 or 3 teams like the Skins to overpay and knock us out. Plan B might sound good but these new guys have zero time to learn. And god forbid I mention the punter and kicker not being signed. I love Mr. T, but he's not gonna blow our budget and get into a bidding war with other teams, and while that's the right thing to do, its gonna hurt us short term. Thanks for attacking me tough guys because I don't bow down and toe the Jet company line. I am not some bitter long time season ticket holder, this is about this year, this one in a life time NFL situation where 3 months is going to widdle down to 3 weeks.
Signing bonuses are paid the same year usually, and every FAQ I've found on option bonuses say they work just like signing bonuses, except they're mid-contract. Additionally, the opening post of this thread from Jetsblog says that he'd get paid the money in 2011 with an option bonus. I don't know if Jetsblog knows what they're talking about, but you don't seem to have much support for your position either, so I guess I'm going to have to reluctantly defer to them here.
Dear, Mr. Electric sir. Ok. You are a little wise ass 30 something punk who thinks anyone over 50 that's a long time ticket holder is a negative nelly that brings down the fan base. Its your team now, my days are over, you'll show me. That's same old Jets crap is over and I should just fade to black, you and Rex have taking over. I don't know squat, a barely know how to use a PC, never mind, understand the cap and Free Agecny, I am just waiting for the next fake spike. I am fat, balding, bitter and don't get laid. Yeap, that's me, Joe Beningo. And I think I own the Jets because I have seasons before you were born. Its all your's baby, you are the new face of the Jets.... ummmm maybe Fatcesa is right
why are you so upset over what he said to you? he thinks you are stupid. are you that stupid to get that upset over the internet?
Dear SOJF, I'm not quite 30 years old yet, but you are right: this is my team. This is my team, a team that I've supported through good and bad seasons for my entire life. This is my team, a team that's gone to back-to-back conference title games and it's so fucking close to going all the way. This is my team, a team that isn't for pussy SOJFs anymore. I'll be happy when you 50+ year old fans are extinct. Wait for it... Wait for it... Wait for it... I did you a favor and edited that crap you posted before: Real fans don't give up on their team. (...especially during the damn off-season) Rex Ryan led the Jets to the AFC Championship without Santonio Holmes and Antonio Cromartie during the 2009-2010 season. 1. Thanks for acknowledging that I'm a genius 2. Stop yelling. 3. Off the top of my head, Darrelle Revis, Kyle Wilson, Jimmy Leonhard, Dwight Lowery, and Marquice Cole are the defensive backs the Jets have under contract. Well, we drafted a few wideouts that can hopefully contribute in a few ways during the upcoming season. Scotty McKnight and Jeremy Kerley have been working out with our quarterbacks and receivers, so I'm sure they're learning. If the Jets lose Edwards or Holmes, we'll most likely bring in a veteran receiver. Players that have been in the league for a while know how to get the mental part of this game down quickly. You shouldn't be worried about picking up a vet. It's imperative that we bring back the receivers for Mark Sanchez's sake. Antonio Cromartie should be the odd man out. It's Kyle Wilson's time to step up, whether you non-believers think so or not. It's almost like you SOJFs don't think a player can improve after his rookie season. Brodney Pool* picked it up late last season. I think he'll remain a Jet unless Rex Ryan goes after Baltimore's Dawan Landry. When you say James, I guess you mean James Ihedigbo? Eric Smith and James Ihedigbo are primarily special teamers and damn good ones at that. I'd love to see both brought back, but if we lose one of them, they can easily be replaced. No shit. You're writing this team off because it could possibly lose 3 (THREE!) of 53 players. We'll most likely only lose one of them. This is a business, but how well has overpaying players worked for Dan Snyder's Redskins. If Santonio Holmes and Antonio Cromartie want to make bank instead of winning games, then that's their choice. The only players that might have trouble not picking things up are rookies. All 32 teams in the league are dealing with the same problems. Our offense will look very similar to last year's. Our defense will be great as usual. Rex Ryan does great things with plug-and-play defenders. Nick Folk's here to stay and Drew Weatherford is expendable. This team isn't built for a short period of time. If things keep falling into place, this team will be a Super Bowl contender for the next decade. You're welcome.
Sec314's post really wasn't that bad. Maybe a bit dramatic with the whole 'season on the line' stuff but you guys are overreacting. Let the shit go...
Makestotal sense. I was referring to losing all 3, I do not expect to sign all 3. I believe Holmes and Cro and irreplaceble. And we have a lot of other FA's we need to sign as in other DB's . Its gonna e intense. Lets hope a chance of winning and having fun means a lot
How is a #2 cornerback irreplaceable? A platoon of Lito Sheppard, Drew Coleman, and Dwight Lowery started opposite Darrelle Revis in 2009. The Jets finished AFC runner-ups with those guys starting at corner.
Yes, you're wrong, but so is the OP article. It's confusing stuff- here's a pretty informative article about the pros and cons of option bonuses. Option Bonuses
I like passionite fans, be it negative or postive. My glass is 1/2 empty with the Jets, its the way I deal with stress of being a fan. I hope all goes well but I am worried, real worried, about losing good players, We are loaded and teams know it. I hope Mr. T gets all the players on the top of his list or other teams playersif if we lose ours. Thanks for the great posts, respect your honesty, don't need know ass kssing from anyone. Two years ago we were able to hide our # 2 CB's because of Rex's blitz packages. We culd not get away with it lasy year, teams figured it out but we had 2 good cover guys. We need at 3 this year unless we get a better pass rush from our front seven. Wilson should be a lot better no off season hurt the year 2 guys.
Nice touch editing your post but still using 'know' instead of 'no'. But anyway, tons of teams do decent jobs on defense without two "#1 CB's", I'm sure Rex Fucking Ryan can handle it if we for some awful reason lose out on Cro.
