Actually not a lot of people; just nyjetscap.com. Nobody else anywhere has reported that that I can find.
And u think you are the only that knows this and the players don't? Players know that if they hit the open market, they will tend to get more, esepcially for someone as talented as Santonio. Why would he expect an offer from the Jets when he knows that he can get more elsewhere if there is a bidding war? That is why it is ridiculous to ask our FO to sign these players before they hit the open market. Only way they'll sign is if the Jets offer something they simply can not resist, thus overpaying anyways. These players might give us a half a mil discount at most since they played here for some time, but besides that, I expect ATLEAST one of the three to sign elsewhere as long as they are UFA.
Thank God you are not the Jets GM. Do u know what restructuring is? Do u know if we restructure Sanchez' deal, we can potentially save about $7-8mil for the year? Sanchez and David Harris' deals can easily save us between $10-12mil with simple restructures. If the $14.75mil of Sanchez's salary is converted into bonus (assume 12mil), then the net charge would be just $4mil of bonus this year, plus $2.75mil salary, plus another $2.5prorated bonus, equalling around $9.25mil, savings us $8 mil. And this won't put too much burden on to future years either as his 2013 cap charge is just $8mil compared to the $17.5+mil this year. Then there is the option to restructure Revis, D'Brick, Pace and Bart Scotts deals. You are looking at potentially $20-25 mil of cap space by restructures, not that I expect them to restructure all of them.
I don't mean to be impolite, but did you actually read my post? Didn't I address this in the third paragraph? "With restructuring we can probably shave $8M off Sanchez's cap hit via an option bonus, but I can't see a way to get Harris down anywhere past $6M."
So that could be used on Shaun Ellis, and not go against the cap. I wonder if a Wayne Hunter would agree to something like that. Also I wonder if players like Pool, Smith, etc are eligible for such a rule.
His MO is that fucking SOJF bullshit that honestly needs to be cleansed from the culture of this fanbase. Like E said, he thinks that 3 players will break this team and they'll go 6-10. Its pure gayness from old, irrelevant fans.
The rumor involves using it only on one player, not multiple. But yes, the reported cap is functionally $123M this way.
i would use this on Brodney Pool. Guy played very well when he learned the Jets system. Plus I would like some consistency in the secondary...Unless we get a Baltimore player in Dawan.
If they are willing to go deep into cap hell in future years, their options are: Drop Revis's number by about $4M this year, and increase his cap hit to $14M and $11M in the next two seasons. That's probably OKish, except that you have a $14M cap hit on a cornerback, and we all made fun of the raiders for doing so with Nnamdi. We're probably unlikely to cut Revis in the next two years, so guaranteeing that money into future years isn't a disaster. We can drop about $3.5M off D'Brick's number by moving $4.5M into the next five years. I'm not 100% certain these are possible however, as both Revis and D'Brick have significant option bonuses for 2011. I can't figure out if it's possible for a player to have two option bonuses in the same season (which is how this would need to work). I assume it is, but perhaps not - that would explain why we haven't seen much talk of restructuring either of these two contracts. There is about $2M in possible saving with Pace available, but that again moves that money into future years, and guarantees a sizable cap hit with him if we decide to cut him next year. Given his age and quality of play, I'm not sure we want to risk more dead money in future years with him. There is about $3M in possible savings with Scott available, but he has many of the same issues as Pace. We may restructure him, but it's a risky proposition given that we may also want to cut him in the future. This is not an incredibly old team with some Brady or Manning at quarterback so we need go crazy this year and just take a cap beating in future years. Sanchez is not yet 25. D'Brick, Revis and company give us a good young base going forward. I understand the impulse to want to win now, but even if we restructure everyone and bring back two of the big three (I really can't imagine we can fit all three), we're not a guarantee to win this year. I'd probably prefer to maintain cap sanity in the future and not keep kicking the can down the road. Restructure Sanchez and Harris. Cut LT. Sign Holmes, fill out the roster with the rest of the money. With Wilkerson and Wilson's development, we can have a top end team for years to come without needing to blow it all up because we got overeager this year.
and attacking him is becoming your MO, just leave him alone, and let him say his piece like he lets you say your piece. he isnt causing you any harm. you disagree with his thought process. and thats fine, attacking him and calling him names because you dont like his opinion is unnecessary. i am sure you will have your usual angry name calling response to me and thats fine, it wont hurt my feelings.
were they reporting it or just repeating nyjetscap? Brandt/Mortenson/Breer/Schefter haven't said anything about this
I'll tell you what's unnecessary: stupid opinions. So, you and 314 should just keep them to yourselves. ...maybe you can PM each other?
If I'm Mark Sanchez, I insist that the option bonus be contingent on the Jets re-signing both Braylon Edwards AND Santonio Holmes. It's simply not in his best interests to adjust his salary so that the Jets can bring back only one of his two best weapons and Antonio Cromartie. Personally, I don't think it's in the Jets best interests, either. The priority needs to be Mark Sanchez's continued development.
+1000 I agree with this completely. Sanchez should only restructure his deal to keep OFFENSIVE talent on this team. It'd make absolutely no sense for him to take a cut so Antonio Cromartie can get paid.
The scenario being talked about with Sanchez doesn't ask him to take less actual money. He just gets in a bonus instead of a salary. Additionally, what if it's impossible to keep both Holmes and Edwards regardless of Cromartie? I think there's a good chance that will be the case - as I outlined, depending what happens with the dead money, even after restructuring, we may still only be able to resign of the three, not two.
Sanchez will still earn the same total amount, but he'll earn it later. As anyone with a savings account or a stock portfolio will tell you, 'x' dollars now is worth more than 'x' dollars next year.
