After 5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a safety, he's going to get more than the league minimum. He's a HOFer and a leader. He'll get a couple of mil.
The cap will rise almost every year. If the GMs job was as simple as that article, he wouldn't be making enough money to be in articles. Tanny knows his stuff. Heck, Im an accountant and even I would have a future years team salary spread sheet along with estimated dead money each year, and some room for FA signings, along with some breathing space. He knows who he will have on his roster next year according to their contracts. He'll have a good idea where replacements would need to be made, and he'll allocate estimated salaries for those positions. Now when he sits down with Harris, he'll know what his targeted salary adjustment for 2012, 2013 and so forth would be. Same for Sanchez and same for D'brick, Revis and whoever he may want to restructure. Its not as simple as this post either, cuz he doesn't know who he'd be cutting. Maybe, god forbid, Sanchez has a career ending injury? What now? All the money gets accelerated and the Jets would be in cap hell for a year at least.
Don't gforget the vet minimum isn't exactly a low number... he's been in the league a while so it should be around 1.5 mill That said I don't want Taylor back. If the numbers on NYJetsCap are close to the truth we won't be in cap hell for the forseable future. The cap goes up every year and in 2013 Pace and Scott's contracts will be reworked freeing up a lot of money.
We have 72 hrs. to sign our own FA's and then they hit the market. That's 72 hrs. to save our team. If Holmes, Braylon and Cro hit the market, they are gone because teams HAVE to spend money and its gonna be quick and dirty. Mr. T. has the future of our team in his hands and I am glad its him. We could be wiped out like no other team if we don't watch it. I am sure they know it and have plan A-F, and all that, but still, we have to be smart about what we pay these guys or we could wind up in cap hell down the road. So the Jets have to be agressive and smart but in the end the player has to be reasonable or we must let them go. I am not paying WR's QB or pass rusher money and Cro is not getting Revis type $. Problem is, idiots like Snyder will. Man, our season is on the line here. And for those who have there heads up their asses that will criticize my end of the world attitude, well, this is a key time in our teams present and future.
Once again, you have no idea what you're talking about...but you buy season tickets, so you think you do.
As long as the dead money from the players we cut (Taylor,Jenkins,Gholston, etc) doesnt carry over .. than we should be at around 100mil.
Ok. Tell me what I said is wrong and what is the Jet world accordning to you. And who said anything about season's?
Oh, just the part where you said our season's over if we don't re-sign three players. Give me a god damn break.
Let's hope that's the case. If so, Tannenbaum will have more to work with than a lot of us previously thought.
There are so many ways around all the road blocks the salary cap presents that I don't even bother to freak out about it. IN TANNY I TRUST.
In reality, I don't think the Jets are going to be able to resign all of the soon to be Jets F/A's and keep the cap in check for future growth. I would certainly like to keep those players who really want to be here after a reasonable offer is made to them. Those like Tone and the others, who will have huge sums thrown there way, may have thanked for there services and allowed to walk Like Sec 314, I do not want to see the Jets offering crazy monies to, too many players, when the long term return is not worth the investment. We are at the beginning of this marathon and we should not treat it like a sprint. With Rex here, the Jets have a chance to be very long term contenders, ie, Steelers, Pats, Ravens, etc.. While I want to see us win a SB as badly as anyone, I would rather win 2 or 3 over 10 years then one right now and then not sniff another SB for 40 years again. Anyway, it going to be a very busy few days once this whole labor deal is squared away. I also think the Jets may have a surprise or two up there sleeve by the time the whole signing period is done......
Get a clue. You do realize the player has to sign the contract. So when the player chooses to hit the open market, you're little plan falls to shit. So I guess its back to 40 years of mediocrity. We might as well as fire Rex and Tanny now in that case. Holy shit why even be a Jets fan? Fucking ridiculous. How about you just let the people who understand this shit deal with it. You're rants and bullshit are no different than a troll.
And where is this philosophy about overpaying for a FA coming from? I didn't know there were 9 Bryan Thomases on the market all waiting to get paid from one good year. Who would have guessed that Cro, Holmes, and Braylon will each get 12mil a year. Amazing. Let's give Manny Lawson 7.5 a year with a 20 mil signing bonus.
What was trolly about 314's post? It was a bit melodramatic but he has a pt, if we let any of them hit the market we're gonna get into a bidding war
I just haven't seen any members of the national media suggest it. Only Jetsblog has said it? Hell the front page of this site says our cap figure is $128.5M? I've seen it at $122M elsewhere, which seems to be more reasonable however. I dunno, I trust Tanny to do whatever is possible, but sometimes you're between a rock and a hard place? With restructuring we can probably shave $8M off Sanchez's cap hit via an option bonus, but I can't see a way to get Harris down anywhere past $6M. They can cut Tomlinson and Brunell to save another $3.7M. So that gets us down to $104M, but still needing to sign our rookies, and replace everyone on this list: Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Antonio Cromartie, Brodney Pool, Wayne Hunter, Shaun Ellis, Damien Woody, LaDanian Tomlinson, Kris Jenkins, Jason Taylor, Steve Weatherford, Brad Smith, James Ihedigbo, Eric Smith, Drew Coleman, Nick Folk, Trevor Pryce and Tony Richardson That's about 1/3 of the team. Assuming we keep one of the big three (Santonio I'd vote) at $7M, and we include league minimum-ish players for the rest of those spots, then we're looking at $115M committed, and the rookies unsigned. After signing the rookies (no idea what their new price will be under the CBA), I just can't see a way for us to find enough money to sign either Edwards or Cromartie. I doubt the rookies will be cheaper than $3M, so we're really looking at $5M in cap room maximum to fill out the roster. (Using a $120M+$3M cap number). Some of those guys listed above will need to be replaced with someone other than an undrafted free agent. I expect that Pool and Hunter will be brought back for instance, but regardless of who it is, that $5M will vanish awfully quickly to just get us out of a total insanity train of running out the ultimate stars and scrubs lineup. If the dead money on the roster doesn't count, then I think we can sign two of Holmes, Edwards, Cromartie. If it does, then we can sign one. I don't see the scenario where we sign all three. Under every scenario, the back end of our roster is awfully thin. I honestly think there's a good case for telling all three to take a hike, and to sign quality players throughout the roster. I'm a big believer in the value of the depth in the NFL. This isn't the NBA or even MLB - star power helps, but there are 45 on the game day roster for a reason.
