Of course this was something the Mets had to do, and it's definitely fun seeing Boras get his BS (that Rodriguez wouldn't go somewhere to be a setup man) shoved right back in his face (the Brewers' closer, John Axford, is 23 of 25 in save opportunities, and has a lower ERA, lower WHIP, and higher K/9IP rate than Rodriguez, so Rodriguez is definitely at high risk to not get the 21 game finishes he needs). Still, I have plenty of doubts that either Parnell or Isringhausen can carry the load, so the number of blown saves is probably about to go up. Of course, if they do trade Beltran there will be fewer save opportunities anyway.
You have got to love this , I bet Boras is livid . Krod doesn't hiit his save numbers , mets get rid of his ridiculous salary and get Fielder in return........okay okay!!! Seriously tho can this please spell the end of the stupid fucking contracts we gave out over last 4-5 years , sign here please.....just add the most ridiculous escalator or non trade clause
K Rod was actually a solid pitcher for us, but his salary was always ridiculous. Pure salary-dump move, the Brewers have no real prospects worth mentioning that they'd give up. The Mets are just lucky they don't have to pay a closer 17.5 million next year. More trade details: the Brewers will send a list of five players to the Mets that the Mets will have until September to choose from - apparently it will depend on how Frankie pitches. Not sure exactly how that will work. Mets unload the rest of 2011's salary, probably around 5 million. The vest for next year is totally Milwaukee's issue. Brewers GM is not committing to naming anyone a closer. I have to say, I love it when Boras suffers. I have full confidence in Parnell doing fine as a closer - he was putting up better strikeout numbers than K-Rod anyway, but I'm nervous about who will take Parnell's place. Mets don't really have great bullpen depth. Hopefully DJ Carrasco remembers how to not suck at baseball.
Any idea who these 5 players are? Their system is quite shitty once you get past the first few guys. They're #1 guy by most accounts is Mark Rogers who is a pitcher with a fastball but not much else. Caleb Gindel is a guy I like but he's got no power and is a corner OF. Kentrail Davis is a speed guy but again no power. They do have the son of Lenny Dykstra in their system as well.
Well, it won't be anyone exciting, and it won't be anyone who'll contribute this season. Thornburg is the hottest arm in their system this year, but he's still in A ball and I'd be very surprised if they let him go. Supposedly the Mets will use the rest of the season to determine which players they want, and supposedly the list of players is subject to change based on how well K-Rod does.
They've got till September to choose their 2 players from a list of 5, a list that can change at the Brewers discretion. Milwaukee has a dead system after they ravaged it for Greinke and Marcum.
Interview with Alderson on FAN refuted a couple of things I had read elsewhere. They're looking to get one player earlier - someone who has experience in the major league club this year but isn't there now (Brandon Kintzler or Mike McClendon? Outside shot at Cory Scapetta?), and then probably waiting on the second player. The first player they get may be able to come make an immediate impact this year.
This move was all about not having to pay k-rod next year if either guy they choose does anything for us I would be surprised. I do not think this is the start of a fire sale but more of a move they had to make to try to resign Reyes in the offseason. I do think we will trade Beltron before the deadline because we will get nothing for him if we don't.
they have to trade beltran. the mets are not going to make the postseason, and if they did they are going no where. it would be a miracle if they are within a few games during the last month of the season.
The Wily Peralta kid wouldn't be a bad pickup if somehow he was on the list. He's not a top of the rotation guy but I've read he throws in the high 90's. I don't think they're gonna get much out of this but if it ends up being the move that beings Reyes back next year it's well worth it. I think you need to bring Reyes back even though it's obvious he's never going to play a full season. What he gives you when he is in the lineup is too much to not gamble. When I worked in the minors a few of us took a trip to watch our team play in Helena, Montana which was the Brewers Rookie League team, one of their players was Jonathan LuCroy and I had dinner with him in a bar. He was college roomies with the kid on the team that I befriended so we hung out with him. Nice kid and I'm glad he is having some success in the majors. That was a good year for the Pioneer League. More then a handful of guys from that class have made the majors which is unusual. The guy who's probably had the most success was Jhoulys Chacin in Colorado but Juan Nicasio was also on that Casper team so two pitchers made it. Ironically Gordie Gronkowski played for Orem and to the surprise on nobody was a major douche.
Southpark...I was being sarcastic and was including him in the trade!! We are more likely to sign Prince William than Fielder!
Rodriguez ended up taking an extra $500,000 in the buyout of his contract in exchange for making the vesting option a mutual option. Good for the Brewers (they can now use him as a closer if they want to with no problems), good for him (he now has a better opportunity to pitch in big spots), and good for Boras (he will now get a percentage of whatever Rodriguez makes next year, which he wouldn't have if the contract had vested). It could even be good for the Mets, if he pitches well the rest of the year and they get a better set of people to choose from.
Yeah, it would've been nice if the Mets could have renegotiated his deal like that, but that was never going to happen with K-Rod being the only person closing out games. Brewers had all the leverage with Axford. I was out last night, but it sounded like a depressing game.
Mets are out of their minds. They want a "top level prospect" in return for Beltran. SF won't give them that, since fuck it, that's stupid and they're building a nice lead in the NLW. Sandy better get back to reality if he wants to dump Beltran.
IMO mets will get a top prospect for Beltran..someone will get desperate and he is a player that could push a team over the line.
