@AdamSchefter Adam Schefter Keep in mind: Conference call tonight with Plaintiffs can be simply to update them on status; isn't automatically to approve any settlement. Leave it to schefter to report some shit then retract it without saying he was wrong
In this situation Schefter reported an event taking place and then reminded those who are interested that it doesn't necessarily mean the end of the lockout. He never put his own spin on the first tweet to cover his ass on the second.
Negative news sells more than positive news. He's keeping people on the edge of their seats, while covering himself. These guys know what they're doing.
Yeah, I think they said both sides expected this decision anyway. To be honest I completely forgot about it because I figured it wouldn't help our cause.
Damn you, NFL.com. You load the page, immediately see the giant "Breaking News" headline, and think the lockout might be over, but it's just the legality news.
The ruling also stated that Free Agents and Rookies are not part of the lockout. So does that mean rookies can go to the facility and get playbooks and go over them with the coaches?
Looks like they can seek a hearing on the matter, but it isn't in stone that they aren't part of the lockout. From ESPN: "In addition, rookies and all free agents can seek relief from Nelson through an evidentiary hearing to determine if the lockout applies to all players without contracts. The league's negotiations in New York were taking a short break Friday morning as players and owners printed copies of the court ruling for review. Talks are expected to resume thereafter. Meanwhile, owners and players are getting closer to reaching an agreement on the all-important revenue split, sources told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio. That's the good news, but there is bad news -- there's still a lot of work to be done on the new parameters of free agency, particularly whether teams will be allowed the right of first refusal on up to three of their free agents. Such a scenario could affect some big names -- Joseph Addai, Antonio Cromartie, Santonio Holmes, DeAngelo Williams -- with big money at stake. According to one participant who was on a player conference call Thursday night with Smith, Smith told the players: "We are close, but we've got work to do and I'm not signing this until you guys are taken care of."
I think theres a solid chance. if they are making 4,5,6 UFA, they've got to give up something in return of similar value.
Really seems frustrating. I know they are not supposed to take shit like the negotiations into consideration when issuing a ruling, but be practical damnit!
I haven't been following this lockout too much and am a little unclear on what this "first refusal" crap means.... Anyone care to drop some knowledge on me?
