It's not like they put Champ Bailey or Asante Samuel ahead of him, I'm not too worried about Andre Johnson being above Revis on a meaningless list.
amen I wouldn't want to have any of the seven listed in front of him on the Jets instead of Revis....not one of them, especially the aging former great in Indy and the immobile statue in Foxboro
Not exactly. "If Andre is faced against a less talented corner than Revis, then he can become a factor in the game" -- Remember, that is every single other corner in the game. So 30 out of 31 opponents, he is a gamebreaking elite player that can carry a team on his back. Don't tell me Revis is that valuable 31/31 either. Against teams with multiple target spread offenses.. the Pats, Colts, Eagles, Giants, you know, top teams in this league -- Revis has limited value. Any of those teams can have fine offensive days if their number one option is blocked up. I'm not trying to tell you that Andre Johnson is a better player than Darrelle Revis, I'm trying to tell you he's a more valuable one, because of his position. And their matchup head to head doesn't much.
lol the list has been extremely suspect since it started. any revis fan who expected him to rate higher than lewis, reed, etc was dreaming. that being said Revis needs more time under his belt. 3 or 4 bad ass years doesnt put you up with the likes of Lewis all time. the list is just a funny mix of ppl ranked off of credentials and potential so overall its a fucking mess
and for the record Johnson has been better at WR for a longer time than Revis has been at CB. case closed. Johnson doesnt have to face Revis every week he impacts his team much more than Revis does ours. We'd be near the bottom of the top 10 in defense prolly even without revis. but still field a respectable d. the texans would be complete and utter shit without johnson.
Considering over the last 2 seasons and post season he has shut down every WR he faced, there is no excuse for him not be rated higher then every WR in the league.
Revis is the best player at a position that doesn't impact the game that much, at least directly. End of story. PS However, indirectly, he allows Rex to play his kind of D and to roll coverage to other sides of the field which is invaluable... but if you aren't a Jets fan you aren't going to notice it much....
What Andre Johnson means to the Texans is more than the passes he catches. Teams roll coverage that way, the Jets don't have to and can put over the top help the other way.
I think the more important way of looking at this list is in 5 years only 2 of those guys on the top 10 of that list will still be playing, and one of them is Revis. And hes the ONLY guy in the top 10 who hasnt peaked yet 8 of them are on the decline and 1 of them is at his peak (AJ), thats a scary thought for ya. Only other guy in the top 10 is AJ, and hell be 34 and about ready to retire by then. Hell most of the guys in the top 25 are all old and on their way out.
The best WR in the game but Revis shuit him down twice and as great a WR as Johnson is revis is a better corner. revis is the best defensive player in the game BUT this is based off of last year and revis was not revis the first half as he was playing hurt.
This is definitely the best way of looking at it. I didn't put much clout into this list mainly because I hate these player ranking lists, but the fact that so many players hold Revis in such high regard at this young point in his career, among the best and the elite, regardless of the injury time where his play suffered and regardless of being avoided like the plague by most QBs, tells you that he has nowhere to go but up. Assuming he stays healthy, knock knock. I don't really see any crime the rankings, actually. Andre Johnson is a monster and deserves a high place on the list. Revis will get his due.
I love how the Fan Rank is 14th, and Charles Woodson is 12th. lol Adrian Peterson being ranked 3rd is a joke IMO.
To play spread offense, you need to have a certain talent level. What if the Jets had Revis, Namdi, Cromartie, Ed Reed, and Troy Polamalu in the secondary? How would a spread offense play against such talent? When u talk about spread, you have to assume same talent level on both sides of the field. Revis will shut down Andre without doubling him. Nnamdi will shut down Larry Fitzgerald and so forth. Which player is more valuable? A player that shuts down a more important position than his, or a player that gets shut down by lesser important position. The equation is simple. Even though Revis plays a lesser important position, he dominates it to the extent where he covers up for two players (most teams would double Andre Johnson. Jets wouldn't, with the exception of maybe a handful of plays). Revis creates an extra defender on the field by simply not requiring to double the #1 WR in the NFL. Don't get me wrong, Andre Johnson is a beast himself and I am not debating him being the #1 WR. Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, and Larry are top 3 IMO.
This was my take also. Revis is by far the youngest guy in the top 10, and still has the most potential to get even better. Deion Sanders is generally regarded as the best cover guy to ever play CB, but his game had a major weakness in that he wasn't physical and didn't like tackling people. Revis is, from what I've seen, just as good a cover guy, and plays it much more physically than Deion ever did. Unless he somehow nose-dives he'll end up being thought of as the best at his position when he finally hangs 'em up.
