I am really excited for this as half of these announcers suck. Unfortunately he is working for fox

    http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...s-he-will-work-as-a-fox-football-analyst.html

Old quarterbacks don’t fade away. First they do a little broadcasting.

So, apparently, it will be for Miami Dolphins free agent Chad Pennington as he contemplates the final act of his football career.

Pennington will spend the 2011 season doing broadcast work for Fox, according to this report from the Charleston, W.Va. newspaper.

It’s unclear if Pennington will be assigned to game analysis (most likely) or be in the studio, but however he is used he is certain to be insightful, humorous and an instant hit.

Pennington, who turns 35 on June 26, is coming off surgeries to repair a torn ACL (suffered playing offseason basketball) and his throwing shoulder (the fourth of his career).

He told the newspaper he wants to take the 2011 season off and reevaluate his physical capabilities in a year.

Broadcasting always made more sense for Pennington than a direct move into coaching at the NFL level, where the massive time commitment would limit his interaction with his young family.

Down the road, perhaps Pennington would make an excellent offensive coordinator. But even then he has maintained the only coaching he could see himself doing would be at the high school level.

So what do you make of this news? Which play-by-play man would you like to see Pennington paired up with?

And how will you look back at his brief-but-eventful Dolphins career, where he remains the last quarterback to take this franchise to the playoffs?

Anyone else read the last line, think of Henne then laugh?

Anyway, good luck to Chad. Hopefully he'll do a good job.

He should be the first guy in line for the Bartolo Colon stem cell surgery.

I loved having Chad as our QB. He needs to call it a career and get into broadcasting full time.

I hope he gets his coaching career somewhere. He might make a very good QB coach, and maybe a very good OC too.

Chad is the man! Too bad its not CBS. He will do great though and his mind would make him a great OC too.

It's a shame he's going to Fox, I'd love to have him calling Jets games. Maybe he went to Fox because he wouldn't share my enthusiasm after the way the organization ditched him. In any case, a great move for a well spoken, intelligent guy, you just know he'll be one of those analysts whos going to really dig into the Xs and Os, not play to the least common denominator.

Even if he went to CBS, it would have to be a pretty low-profile Jets game for him to be the announcer. We probably have the same chance of him announcing a Jets game on Fox as we would of hearing him announce one on CBS.

I just hope he doesn't pick his time in front of a microphone to start emulating Namath, "I don't care about the Jets, Dick Stockton, I just want to kiss you." Holy shit that would be awkward.

ESPN is reporting Chad Pennington is OUT 2 to 4 weeks with Laryngitis. FOX looking at Jay Fiedler (Soar Throat) as backup option.

I know its supposed to be funny joking about his multiple injuries, but make no bones about it Chad was tough. He fought through the injuries for the team. The first shoulder injury, the second shoulder injury he came back in after Fiedler got hurt then the ankle. I admire his courage and am sad about the career he should have had.

I agree 100%. he was my favorite Jet of the early decade. Great personality, outspoken, and very intelligent. Too bad for the injuries, he had a magical first year as a starting QB n could have been amazing for this franchise if it wasn't for the injuries. I wish him all the best and hope he remains as close to the NFL as possible.

Cool another Pennington thread, the points and counterpoints should be so much fun, I am going to get my popcorn. I can hardly contain myself.

Fuck the Fox booth, this kid belongs on the sidelines learning how to be an NFL coach. Chad is too damn smart to be wasting his talent behind the Mic. I have always said and believe that Chad with his knowledge would make a fine QB coach to start and as he learned and developed , he would become an excellent OC in the future

Coaching takes up a ton of time. Chad does not want that, he wants the booth job because its a low hour job adn he can spend more time with his family. Can't fault a guy for wantign that when he's already made millions.
