http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/je...ent?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jc-cole_nfl_players_gaming_investments_061611 Apparently, Holmes is one of 25 NFL athletes who have invested 20 million dollars into an Alabama bingo and entertainment operation that falls in violation of the league's anti-gambling rules. From the article: “If it were to be determined that an NFL employee had made an investment in violation of league policy on gambling-related activities, that individual would be directed to withdraw the investment and it would be reviewed for potential discipline,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. There seems to be a lot of grey area here, but considering Holmes is already in bad standing with the NFL, this could be a potential problem.
hahahah...judging from his tweet 3 minutes ago, he doesn't seem too stressed about this ordeal: Santonio Holmes 06/17/2011 01:09 AM ET Watching TRU tv Presents Worlds Dumbest so hilarious
If anything, this will help the Jets retain him as a FA. Other teams will be afraid to touch him and he won't command as much money.
did vick get suspended at all for the dog fighting thing? I don't remember....technically he bank rolled that thing, if he didn't get suspended neither should these guys
I'm prety sure they took into account that whole prison sentence thing before deciding not to suspend him. If Holmes winds up going to Leavenworth, then he'll probably dodge the suspension.
i think they deemed his 2 years in jail was enough of a suspension for Vick... I think something more is going on here... how does one get 25 NFL athletes to invest 20 million (each? or combined? either way...) in a random bingo hall in Alabama? I find it hard to believe its purely a bingo hall....
Who the fuck do these guys get investment advice from? They really should go watch that Real Sports piece on why NFL players end up broke in five years, and not just because it features Bart Scott in a suit talking portfolio management.
I doubt it'll get him suspended, especially since there's a lockout and no one knows if a player can be disciplined during a lockout.
im so nervous about signing Holmes, but let's be honest we need this guy to win a superbowl, and win our division.
Disagree. Yes, he has some great moments, but they are just enough moments to make us forget about all the fuck ups. I can't even count the times I screamed "FUCKING HOLMES!!!!!" at the screen last year.
He wouldn't even win the title if you narrow the catagory to "the worlds dumbest WR in NY". Plax has him beat for sure!
He won us four games for certain, one (Denver) for almost certain, and could have won us one more (Dolphins at home). Hell even Green Bay was a totally different game, and probably a win, if he caught that slant (among any one of nine thousand other dumbass things not happening). Good or bad, he is the textbook definition of a game changer. Those are truly rare. Gotta keep him.
You are pretty much making Colleen's point for her with that one. Holmes made a lot of great plays and won us four games but he also had a few stupid fucking drops early in games thatcontributed to the team needing to come from behind late. So yes, he is a game changer but that won't mean much if he is suspended for a good portion of the season - pro sports usually don't take gambling violations lightly. He's a much bigger priority than Smith but Braylon should still be the number one priority of the WRs. Especially when we're looking to field a roster with four HBs that could be carrying the ball. Hopefully this will drop his price down but if he continues to set it at a prohibitive level then the FO might want to start looking elsewhere.
Holmes is gone for a year if he gets suspended again. Depending on how this unravels he could get real cheap real fast.
What I said was all in the context of no suspension. If the league comes down on him for this then whether or not he's a game-changer is out the window anyway. Tanny's not gonna hand a guy a long term deal to sit at home for a year. Now as far as discipline goes, wouldn't this fall under the personal conduct policy as opposed to the substance abuse policy? I think they are treated differently and Holmes would not be a repeat offender under the conduct policy. I think...
He fucked up against the Packers, with a play that would of most likely been a Touchdown, but lets not forget those odd interception calls, when Keller was down. and the 2nd Dolphins game. That was 2009 Braylon Edwards wide open drop. but he has won more games than he has cost us. Let's sign this beast in 2012! edit: also fuck. Santana Moss may be involved in this bullshit as well. He was a guy I was looking to possibly replace Holmes, if he left. He hasn't been in contact with Redskins players, and has not shown up to one unorganized workout even though he is under contract. edit2: he is a Free Agent nevermind
Thank you. As I've said before, the 4Q might be "Tone Time" but what about the other 45 minutes of every game? I've seen a lot of reports the past coupe of months that behavior by players while the lockout exists is still going to be reviewed when the agreement is made. Tone is going to lose a year of playing time, and this is the big year for the Jets. At this point we need to cut the line and move on. (Admittedly I'm far more in favor of bringing back Edwards than Holmes, but losing him all year is senseless.)
So am I wrong that if suspended it would be for a year? I thought he next suspension for whatever reason it was, would be for a year.
