Sterling having a banner game. First he says stats are meaningless, because Ogando had a great ERA and got rocked today, and then called A-Rod's fly out a home run. His excuse this time was he saw a fan jump up.
Good point. Now, continuing his rant about how having good numbers is meaningless, he says he saw the numbers for Ogando and he was blown away (when they were going over them before the game). Nice to see how closely he follows baseball. He must subscribe to the Francesa school of baseball fandom.
Nice ball game this evening. Ogando suffers his first loss and non-quality start of the year at the hands of the NYY. I like.
Nice to see that 4th outfielder go 3/4 with 3 runs and 1 RBI, and Jeter's incompetent backup go 2/4 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Too bad Alio decided not to watch the games for the next few weeks.
Hahaha, jerk! Seriously though, I was sunk right from the start last night. Nunez came up with the bases loaded, no score, and drove in the first run. Right there I was thinking "Awesome, now I have to suck it up on him too!" Then Gardner goes and has a very good night as well. Bastards. Anyway, position players aside, I'm in total disbelief with the management of this team. Noesi is with the pro club and has proven he can pitch at this level. Yet they signed a reliever from the Phillies farm system seemingly with the intent on having him start Thursday. Phelps is in Scranton pitching his ass off too but doesn't get the call. (Which I would disagree with since it would blow an option on him, but still, why go outside the organization when you have in-house talent?) Someone mentioned it could be that the Yankees are scared to bring along young pitchers too fast, and I could accept that if not for Noesi having already pitched. Against Boston no less! As for last night's game, I didn't watch the whole thing. I saw the first few innings and listened to the rest. I did happen to have both the tv and the radio on at the same time for the ARod "homer" though. WTF John? That was quite possibly the worst call he's ever made.
Yeah I dislike the message they're sending Noesi. He's been solid, yet they are going with a 32 year old RHP who will make his ML debut. Questionable, but time will tell.
Exactly. I know some people coughcoughcappycough don't think players should be affected by the way they're treated, but this seems to be a trend with this team. Noesi does a pretty good job against Boston, he doesn't get the start (and was recalled from Scranton since that appearance!) Montero gets sent back down despite having a great year last year so they can hand the job not to the incumbent Posada, but to a guy they brought in with health concerns. Phelps is pitching his ass off in Scranton, and he doesn't get the call, they sign a 32 year old reliever to make the start instead. I don't get it.
It's not that they shouldn't be affected. It's that if they ARE affected, then they're not the kind of player you want in any case. In Noesi's case, I think it's probably because he's only good for 80 pitches, and the Yanks' bullpen has already lost a few reliable men.
Edited my post after I noticed you already provided that bit of info. I'm not a fan of that decision, but if Gordon pitches well, I guess this discussion is moot for the time being.
Alex Rodriguez had difficulty performing in October until after the steroids thing took the pressure off. He admitted as much. Would you not want Alex Rodriguez on your team? Players are human beings. Human beings are subject to their own emotional states. I find it hard to believe most people aren't affected when seemingly given a vote of no confidence. Yeah, I noticed that. As for Gordon, I wouldn't say the point is moot. Unless he throws a no hitter it's going to be hard to argue that Noesi doesn't deserve a chance. If nothing else, Noesi needs to be sent back down to get back into the SWB rotation. I'm not certain, but I think he was called up before his last scheduled start (this past Sunday) and he hasn't worked since. ----------- On an unrelated topic, but related to last night, I saw a pretty crazy stat about the Yankees. The team has scored 12 or more 5 times for CC. Burnett has given up 2 runs or less 4 times and lost. People knock AJ when he has a bad game, but this year he's actually been pretty spectacular. He's had a couple of outings where he just had nothing, but overall, he's pitched very well.
Absolutely. AJ has pitched very well outside of the Boston start (the defense didn't help his cause either). You can tell his hard work in the offseason has made a difference.
I'm not so sure it was physical work as much as it was the mental boost of Rothchild visiting him. He pitches more confidently this year than he has in the past. Even when he blows a pitch he bounces back, where he'd just implode before this year. I'm sure some of it is mechanics. I haven't noticed much in the way of his mechanics changing, but that could be a lack of really paying enough attention. Still, I think he silences the voice in his head a lot better this year. (It might also help that Jorge doesn't catch him anymore too.) ------------- I hope everyone is in for a treat tonight. Check out this lineup: Swisher, RF Granderson, CF Teixeira, 1B Rodriguez, DH Cano, 2B Jones, LF Nunez,SS Cervelli,C Pena, 3B Nova, P This might be a tough one to watch.
10 pitches in and I already know Nova is going to get rocked. Edit: nice recovery after a very poor start
