I don't think it's right to run over a catcher not blocking the plate.

Collisions are part of the game, but they should only be part of the game if the catcher is trying to block the runner, IMO.

White Sox starting pitcher John Danks took exception to Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista on Sunday, calling the home run leader a "clown."

Danks made the comments in response to an incident in the fourth inning on Sunday when Bautista popped up a 3-2 pitch from Danks for the second out of the inning.

Bautista tossed his bat and appeared frustrated with himself as he jogged toward first base before the ball was caught.

The two players had words with each other as Bautista headed back to the dugout.

"I just told him to run the bases. He was out there acting like a clown," Danks said. "He's had a great year and a half -- no doubt. He's one of the best players in the league. But he's out there acting like he's Babe Ruth or something."

"Just the way he was acting. He ran halfway down the line and stopped and spiked his bat. I get it. He's upset at himself," Danks continued. "He's a good hitter, he's had a great couple years. But he isn't that good to be acting like he needs to hit every ball out of the ballpark."

After the game, Bautista said he was simply frustrated with himself and not trying to show up Danks.

"That should not be his concern," Bautista said. "I was upset at myself with missing a pitch. If he took it the wrong way, I'm sorry. I'm not here to make him feel good."

How is he showing up Danks? I don't get why Danks is creating an issue out of it.

Bautista popped up and was upset at himself.

Danks lost his last 5 starts or something like that.

    Point fingers much, John?

He's 0-8 this season. The White Sox are 1-10 in his starts.

Johnny Bench said today that Posey is to blame for his injury.

I think he knows a thing or two about catching in the majors.

The Friars officially called up Anthony Rizzo earlier today - he'll be in the starting lineup tonight against the Nats.

Riz was a big piece in the Adrian Gonzalez deal. PETCO will definitely hurt his power numbers though.

With no lineup to speak of, the Padres appear to be in really deep trouble now. On Sunday they indicated that both their winningest starter, Aaron Harang, and the member of their rotation with the lowest ERA, Dustin Moseley, were going on the disabled list.

Harang, who is 7-2 with a 3.71 ERA, is being sidelined by a badly bruised left foot. He pitched through the problem on Thursday, but it’s gotten worse and he’s been in a walking boot the past few days.

Moseley, who has gone 2-6 despite a 3.16 ERA, partially dislocated his left (non-throwing) shoulder during his start Wednesday against the Rockies.

I can find you five long time catchers who have said differently.

Anyone who spent 10+ years catching in the majors probably knows a thing or two about catching, including Ray Fosse.

Dustin Moseley is terrible. Wade LeBlanc will fill in just fine. Moseley should come out of the pen in long-relief situations.

Aaron Harang is having a good year, but his injury isn't serious - I heard he was dealing with foot pain. ...man up, Harang. I'm interested to see how Anthony Bass does in a spot start tonight - he's a pretty solid pitching prospect.

Mat Latos is by far the best pitcher on this team. His record doesn't indicate that, but that's just because in almost every one of his starts, he's lacked run support. Most people will probably make the same argument for Moseley, but that's not the case - he crumbles when things go bad.

No lineup to speak of? They're just banged up. Nick Hundley and Cam Maybin just came back from the DL. O-Dawg is hurt.

Anthony Rizzo was called up last week and he looks like a serious player. This team isn't going to score many runs - they have to win with pitching and defense.

Ryan Ludwick is a streaky hitter, but he's solid. I have a feeling he'll be shipped out sooner than later though. The Reds want him.

Heath Bell will be traded soon as well. The Yanks and Cards are possible landing spots.

When Gonzalez was shipped out for prospects, everyone knew they'd struggle to produce runs. The lineup just doesn't have much power at all. The fact that they play home games at PETCO doesn't help hitting either.

I highly doubt they'll make the playoffs this year, but the future looks pretty solid with so much young talent on the roster.

Oh, you knew what I meant.

Johnny Bench is arguably the best catcher of all time.

Sure, but that doesn't mean he knows more about catching than other long time MLB catchers. He just happened to be a better player.

Latos is easily the best SP on San Diego, but he's struggled this season. He got off to a terrible start.

I didn't write the article, but I think basically everyone would agree the lineup is terrible.

As for your point that losing Harang and Moseley isn't a big deal, I agree. Neither one is that good, and they shouldn't miss more than two starts apiece anyway.

Where the hell did Jose Bautista come from?

He hit a ton of homers last year but not for average, this year he's been lights out, after years of mediocre play.

Up until last year he never hit more than 16 homers, and since I don't follow baseball that closely I never even heard of him until this explosive season.

    I'm so pissed I didn't keep Konerko, he's having a hell of a season, especially for 35.

Do you think there might be some new wonder drug, whenever oddities like this happen baseball brought it on themselves for casual fans to feel this way.

Do you think if by some miracle Konerko breaks the 500 HR mark would he be HOF worthy?

Yeah, he was technically property of the Mets for a few moments in 2004. They acquired him on the same day they traded him in the deal that involved Benson.

Bautista played with four MLB teams in 2004. The only other guy who I know did this was Dave Kingman in 1977. That season he played with a team from each division (Mets, Padres, Angels, Yankees).
