Dont know how serious I can take a list that has Jason Piere Paul on it, or thinks Vonte Davis is making the pro-bowl.
Whats wrong with putting JPP on the list? The guy was a rookie last season playing his second (or was it third?) year of football in his life and still had 4.5 sacks as a rookie. It's not insane to believe he could have a breakout year... Vontae Davis, annoyingly, is actually pretty good. If Nnamdi goes to the NFC (Philly or Dallas) and Cortland finnegan has another down year its not insane to think Vontae could improve enough that all of florida would vote for him to make the pro-bowl... so don't not take it seriously because he mentions those guys as potential breakout guys... If anything, I wouldnt take it seriously because Sione is on it... Sione has been incredible since Jenkins went down (2 years ago). He is vastly underappreciated and will continue to do what he does. He won't ever get the pocket push Jenks did, but he is still really good. Sione Pouha can't breakout because he has already done so.
and here i thought pouha broke out 2 years ago when he stepped in and the jets were the no.1 defense in the league.i guess thats why i am not a sports writer
Between the corner that the Chiefs have, Mcourntney, Revis, Finnegan, (possibly aso), leon hall, bailey, Cromartie I think its laughable that Davis actually has a chance to make it. And JPP is trash, 4.5 sacks as a rookie doesnt mean shit to me. Especially playing on that Giants line where this guy probably gets the most favorable matchups in the world. The guy had bust written all over him and thats gonna be his story. Sure he wont be as useless as Gholtson, but not many can
starting with Davis. Like I said, he is actually pretty good. Believe me, I want the fins to suck as much, if not more so, than you do. But we absolutely should hold ourselves to higher standards than the fuckin fish fans, and give credit where credit is due. Revis is the only lock on that list you mentioned. Bailey is getting way up there in age and is going to lose a step this year. Aso is likely going to the NFC (Dallas/Philly). We have zero evidence Cro will be in the AFC next year. Also if he is a Jet, playing opposite Revis, he would have to have a 10 INT season to have both Jets CB's make the pro-bowl. Finnegan had one good season 2 years ago, he is trash compared to guys like Revis, Aso, Bailey (even last year, much less in his prime) and is probably at best, comparable to Cro. Leon Hall plays for Cincy which is going to probably stand pat or move backwards next year. Don't be surprised if they have no pro-bowlers in 2011, although if you told me they would get one, I would put money on it being Hall. Mccourty could easily make the pro-bowl again. He plays in Fucking NE and if he has another year like this past one, is unfortunately going to be damn good. On Flowers, he is also a great up and coming corner, but KC is going to take a step back this year, and as a result, they won't have the same amount of pro-bowlers, and I could see Eric Berry taking Flowers spot in the pro-bowl. But I could easily see Davis improving enough to beat out some or most of those guys in a popularity contest. on JPP, congratulations, your word is the gospel that all should bow to. Seriously though, a rookie getting 4.5 sacks in whatever system is pretty good. Even if its a product of the Giants DL system/schemes or whatever, guess what, thats where he plays! If he works the system to his advantage to get game changing sacks, then by golly he probably was a good pick huh? Just for shits and giggles, John Abraham, the last great pass rusher we actually had, started his career with a 4.5 sack rookie season. Now he has the second most career sacks among active players (behind Jason Taylor) with 102.5. J-Abe started his career in the same way as JPP. Will JPP become as good as J-Abe? I seriously doubt it. But my point is you can't ignore the kids potential after his rookie season in which he performed fairly well, not like a superstar, but certainly not like Gholston either.
Ditto. I expect more of the same from him with maybe a little bit more praise. He will never be as dominating as Jenkins, but he is under-the-radar-good and that means teams are more likely to underestimate his impact on the game. Good for us, bad for them.
No Joke.. Jason Pierre Paul is a BEAST.... I so wanted the Jets to draft this guy..... Not only do I take an article seriouslythat mentions him as a break Out player, The artilce is a year behind when I declared it.
WOW!!!!! Did you see JPP play???? I don't even care about the Sack #'s... All I had to do was watch this athletic freak rush the passer... W O W.... IMO, this is one of the best young stud Pass Rushers in the entire NFL..
Pouha had his breakout year two seasons ago. We know exactly what we are getting from him next season.
Exactly. He's a 32 year old guy who's essentially started two years in a row in the same system. Unless he "hits the wall" or has injuries he's going to be pretty much the exact same very good lineman who we've watched the last two years. These breakout lists don't work very well for the Jets: other than Kyle Wilson all of the young guys who are reasonably likely to ever break out already have broken out (Sanchez/Keller/Greene/Harris aren't potential break out stars!)
JPP is a freak. His rookie year he played inside, and outside. Guy is a nut. Also on JPP you know how many outstanding pass rushers the Giants had last year right? He had limited time when Kiwi was healthy(4games) and still had much limited time. With Tuck, and Osi..JPP played defensive tackle some snaps, and blew past his opponent. The kid is just extremely raw, and misses some opportunity's to make plays. But with time he will start to capitalize on those opportunity's. I would love to have a player like him on the Jets. Vontae is also pretty good. He had a year god damn good start to his season, but then kinda stunk it up the rest. as for Pouha..all we can expect is consistency. He has about a year, and a half under his belt being a starter, so what we will expect is a reliable player. ps he sucked asshole both Steelers games. I heard on SNY he cut his fucking hand open, while opening a can to feed his dog or some stupid shit. ..so he had his hand wrapped up during the first Steelers game, but the AFC game was unacceptable.
Pouha is a great guy to have, but we really, really need Jenkins back. I don't care about his injury history. Sign him to a 1 year minimum deal. When he's healthy he is just that good.
Yeah Pouha can't break out with his performances the last 2 years. Maybe he will be more noticable around the league if the Jets new DL can help him out more.
Was thinking the same thing... to the eyes of any informed Jets fan he has already "broken out". Sure, another year of starting experience will come in handy but he'll also be a year older (little less explosive, little slower)... all in all if he plays any better than he did this year I'll be very surprised... but he's been waaay good enough these last 2 years so if he doesn't improve any more who cares.
Pouha's don't break out. Neither do DeVito's or Harris's. They just fly under the radar and quietly improve a little during every off-season. The oft late-to-the-party national media don't concern themselves with headlines like "Humble Professional Athlete Slightly Better This Year Than Last." And not to steal Pouha's thunder, but Mike DeVito should have made this list in his place.
