NEW YORK (AP) — The attorney for Braylon Edwards says the New York Jets star is "headed for trial," at least for now, in his New York City DWI case. Edwards was excused from court Monday because his flight from Los Angeles was canceled. A Manhattan judge set a July 22 hearing on whether certain evidence will be admitted. Lawyer Peter Frankel was asked outside court about plea talks. Frankel said that, at this point the case is "headed for trial." But Frankel also says, "We're always talking about possible resolutions in the case." Police allege the wide receiver's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit during the September stop. The 28-year-old is scheduled to become a free agent. Players are currently locked out amid a contract clash with the NFL. He was twice the legal limit. I have a problem with that, and I need to hear from him some reason to be sympathetic. OTHER than my team needing a talented receiver.
it was hilarious how it all started as a convo about edwards and deteriorated to the death of one of the guys who sang teach me how to dougie. it was also classicly stated by the green dude.... and someone posted a comment somewhere. maybe to that article "someone shoulda taught him how to duckie" while i extend my condolences i still think that those posts were hilarious.
There is no reason that he could give that would lead me to feel sympathy, but in his defence, he wasn't pulled over for dangerous driving, but for dark windows. He got unlucky and got caught.
If he did it, he did it. He should accept responsibility for his actions, not dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge.
Not exactly sure why his attorney couldn't get this reduced to reckless driving with a hefty fine? I personally know this can be done for around 10k when all is said and done. DUI cases have been won based on calibration issues with breathalyzer, time of stop versus time of stop, reason for traffic stop, etc but why even bother taking the risk of a trial? The courts would rather not spend the time and money, the kid should stay out of court. Either way, good luck Braylon.
Because Cyrus Vance may choose to make his bones with this one and show that celebs/athletes are not immune from the law.
This, and it's also not his first run-in with the law. Also, I read somewhere the other day that there are witnesses that can attest to his sobriety at the time of the incident. If the lawyer feels their evidence can hold up in a courtroom in front of a jury, it's in Edwards' best interest to fight. If he takes a plea admitting guilt, it violates his parole, and the other judge is watching this case's development.
I suggest they use the beard defense. "Your honor, I come before you today to let you know that it was not I that had too much to drink that fateful night, but rather, it was the Beard. I've since reprimanded the Beard and banished him indefinitely from my persona."
