Too many people judge QBs by fantasy #s, not to get bakc into this debate but it's why most think Manning is better than Brady. Until Mark has good #s he won't be recognized as a top QB but there are not many QBs I'd rather have going forward than Mark.
Honestly, till the lock out is lifted or the labor dispute is settle and NFL business begins again you are going to have BS like this list. The NFL network is scrambling to find content to present and fill air time, so they come up with this Top 100 players. The hype they were laying on the viewing public , you would think you were talking about a second draft... NFL Network is running out of things to say and show, they are holding out on replaying games , over and over but I see that starting very soon.... I personally don't care one bit, if even one Jet makes that list, after 40 years of disrespect, it just goes with the territory. All I care about is the start of the regular season and the jets making another run at getting to the big show, and finally winning it . Only then will the Jets finally become the darling of the NFL with tons of hanger on's who will tell you "we knew all a long the Jets were this good" .. At that point I hope all the Jets players tell the experts to go Fuck themselves.......
Which is why the Jets were in the AFC champ game 2 years in a row and Tampa was in the NFC couch potato playoff league. I'll take my underrated QB and playoffs, uh thank you.
Going with this, most NFL fans only watch their particular team play, along with a couple of prime-time games every week. From what they've seen, Sanchez is: 1. Lucky in pulling off these late-game comebacks 2. Overly reliant on the Jets defense and running game 3. Has mediocre overall stats (always point out his completion percentage) We all watch Sanchez play week-in and week-out. He may not come out gangbusters but we know what he's capable of considering his youth and inexperience. Sanchez is looking very promising and is poised to have a great year, as he's shown thru his playoff performances in his first two seasons but also off the field in coordinating unofficial team practices and meetings. If you ask 100 NFL fans if Sanchez is a top 10 quarterback, the overwhelming majority will say no. However, if you asked me or many other Jet fans, I would only trade Sanchez for a handful of guys in the league. His ceiling is high, let's let him climb his way up there and impress the league for the time-being.
i love sanchez but you guys are delusional right now, josh freeman is a better qb than mark sanchez ... he plays in just as tough a division, has just as many (maybe more) comeback victories, and is a waaaaay better decision maker ... and not only is he better than sanchez now, he has a higher ceiling than sanchez now whether or not he could handle the spotlight of playing in ny is another thing, which is why i am more than happy with sanchez ... but given what we know, freeman is better than sanchez p.s. i dont buy this talk that freeman doesnt have a lot of weapons ... mike williams, a. benn and kellen winslow are all first round talents at skill positions and their offensive line is very good
he just wasn't considered in the top 100 for the 2011 season... is it such a big deal? PS Also Sanchez will never have great statistical numbers in Schotty's O...
Awesome, this is exactly why I love this board. BTW....Sanchez, 2 seasons, 2 AFC Championship Games. We all know what the kid can do (playoff success, 4th quarter comebacks, etc.) why do we give a shit about what anyone else thinks? I'm sure it all makes him laugh and makes him want to get on the field even quicker.
From the few games I've seen of Freeman last year, I think he's going to be a stud....... granted it's early, and he does not face the same spotlight pressure that Sanchez did stepping in. Sanchez came in the #5 pick in NYC on a competitive team, replacing a HOF QB. Freeman came in on a team that was terrible with low expectations, so he just had to "play". I think the picks worked out good for both teams. Like others said, I'll take a winner over a stat guy any day.
I'm glad the league and opposing fans hate him, just means we're doing something right. Dolphin fans probably hate him more than anyone and that makes me feel great. I hated Dan Marino his entire career. No I am not saying Sanchez is Dan Marino, I know everyone would jump on that without a disclaimer.
I really like Freeman and I would have been happy if we took him in '09 had we not been lucky enough to get mark but most of Freeman's #s have come in low pressure games. They had a nice record last year but lets take a look at the teams they beat: 5-11 Cle 2-14 Carolina TWICE 4-12 Cincy 7-9 St. Louis 5-11 Arizona 6-10 SF 6-10 Washington 7-9 Seattle 10 of their 11 wins came against teams under .500, their lone win against an above .500 playoff team came in week 17 against NO in a game No had nothing to play for. Needing a win late in the year at home against detroit they lost in OT effectively ending their postseason hopes. I really like Freeman and think he will be good but sanchez was better last year despite the fantasy #s.
The best litmus test on a quarterback's talent imo is the draft. If one of your primary team needs according to NFL pundits is quarterback, then you probably have a problem at quarterback. No one even considered the Jets taking a quarterback in their first couple of picks because Sanchez is the franchise signal-caller. The Jets needed a backup QB which they snagged in the 7th, but none of the draft analysts made a mention of the Jets not taking a QB early because frankly, the Jets don't need one. They can ramp on and on about his mediocre statistics but when all is said and done the media and NFL fanbase as a whole knows Sanchez has what it takes. On the other hand, teams like Carolina, Arizona, San Francisco, Tennessee, Seattle, Jacksonville, Minnesota, Cincinnatti and Washington (also Buffalo and Miami to lesser extent) were/are all in need of a franchise QB and it would take a fool to disagree.
first of all, the saints were alive for the #1 seed up until the last week of the season and i dont see your point about the lions, they were a good team last year secondly, 9 of 11 of the jets regular season wins came against teams under .500 lastly, sanchez may have had a better overall season (because he got to play more games) but im not knocking freeman for his team missing out on the playoffs ... it is a team sport
I watched the first 30 mins and that was more than enough for me....... As to Sanchize.....At the end of the day, I really believe he will be one of the elite. He is still but a wide eyed kid....and he's doing some surprising shit already. He is maturing at an amazing rate. When he has accumulated the kind of seat time that makes those eyes relax, and that brain start working at the right speed, and it all gets "in synch," Sanchez is going to start ripping defenses apart......wait and watch.....:up:
Big Fan Of Freeman - I admit, That's the guy i wanted in that draft without trading up. Sanchez has a long way to go to prove it to a lot of people.... One thing I always say about QB's though is you want the guy that is a Gym rat and eats and breathes football and so far, Sanchez is near #1 in the entire NFL in that stat.
Why then did the Saints remove Drew Brees down 7 in the 4th qtr after recovering a fumble in TB territory? So beating the top 2 AFC seeds in meaningful games isn't better than beating zero playoff teams in meaningful games? How about 4 road playoff wins the last 2 years? I'm not knocking Freeman, I like him as a QB but the facts are they beat bad teams last year and when they had a chance to cement their postseason status they blew a game at home to detroit. The Lions were better than they have been but it's hard to call a 6-10 team "good". W/ essentially the season on the line you have to find a way to beat Detroit at home when you are in your 2nd yr as a starting QB.
TO the OP, I tweeted with Manish about this, and he's under the impression that Sanchez will be named in one of the remaining 79 spots. Or whatever is left- The way Sanchez has played in the playoffs is what Manish is going on, 4 road playoff wins under the biggest microscope for any athlete against quality teams.
People will say Mark plays on a more talented team and in the next breath they will tell you the Jets have not won anything, not even a division, never mind a super bowl. Its a NY hate thing, a Rex hate thing and his stats will never measure up to the top tier plays. He just wins and is a clutch 4th quarter player. He has 4 playoff wins, how many does Joe Flaco have. Four the same amount, yet you would be killed if you metion them in the same breath. He's our little secret, even the Jet writers, specifically you know who, does not give him the credit he deserves. Completion percentage is the new batting average, totally over rated stat. Just win baby.
