Personally, I find the notion absurd, but it's been raised on here. Keep in mind, we're dismissing salary concerns, and this is not a question of who you would rather re-sign (as we all know, I've been firmly on the Edwards side of that question all along). This is a pure and simple question of, with all else being equal, are we better offensively WITHOUT Santonio Holmes?
you can never have too many weapons in this league. However, Keller definitely has less of an impact with Holmes on the field. There is absolutely tension between Schotty and Holmes and it is unfortunate. Holmes is supremely talented, however I honestly feel the offense won't miss a step without him.
Folks constantly bring up Keller's decreased production as proof of this argument. I've always felt it had more to do with teams watching film on Keller from the first 4 games and simply making it difficult for Mark to find him. I honestly cannot see how a playmaker of his caliber could make the offense "worse".
Voted give me a minute................. But Holmes really gives the impression of being a gaping asshole. So I would rather have Edwards at this point. Dustin Keller may weigh in differently than I. Of course that doesn't mean the offense is worse. Just the focus shifts a bit also you have to factor in the naivety of Sanchez. As Mark gets more savvy he will be able to integrate all his weapons better. But no the offense is way better with Holmes to say otherwise is foolish.
Keller had more of an impact early because our receivers outside of Edwards and Cotchery were absolutely terrible. I've consistently preferred Edwards this offseason provided we picked up a slot receiver, which we did. However, without Holmes we lose a measure of explosiveness. As the Pats showed, it's possible to succeed without it, but I sure as hell would rather have him on the team if everything else were equal. If we're able to retain both, BTW, one huge benefit of Jets West is the trust Sanchez will be building with Edwards and Keller. If he spreads the ball around more, we'd get the best of both worlds.
man I was referring to this http://larrybrownsports.com/footbal...es-brian-schottenheimer-jets-play-calls/49102 I dont want to make a big deal out of it but that stuff bothers a team. It happens way too often when players talk like that to the media. Mike Peterson, TO (every. single. time.), Cromartie, Jeremy Shockey, Jerome Harrison, Adalius Thomas, and many other media casualties.
He may look like that to the fans and his competitors but after watching him talk to J. McKnight on Hard Knocks and listening to what Ellard has said about his presence in the locker room, I think he has fit into the locker room which is really the only place his character matters. Still, if forced to choose I'm still picking Edwards.
Yeah that's why I said impression. I don't know him and don't pretend to. Obviously what he does in private with the team can be totally different. I would rather have Edwards and Holmes is the better player. Braylon strikes me as being more in tune with the team though. Just like life it is all about the marketing. Braylon is marketing himself to the fans a shit ton better.
If Schotty and Sanchez being able to spread the ball around more, because of extra solid receivers being on the field is making the offense worse, then yes, I guess. In terms of who to sign if we can't keep both, excuses don't need to made, they are both good and its a matter of preference, I like Edwards, he's the big man to go down field. If we can get a solid slot receiver to run the short routes then we really don't need Holmes IMO. Cotchery is a great number 2 and the fact that we are a run first team, having two big time receivers isn't necessary anyway.
Just read what Rex had to say about him in his book. He went to visit Holmes during the off season when he was working out alone. He brings his son and tells him to teach the kid how to beat press coverage. Holmes spends an hour and a half coaching rex's son he continued to befriend him the whole season. He may very well be an asshole but he might just get a bad rap.
I do think that Holmes gets a bad rep because he is so intense. We are certainly a better and tougher team with him. Yet, if I had to chose I too would go with Edwards , for the simple fact that, I want the player that really wants to be here above all else. I think Holmes wants to be here , but he has never had his big pay day and that will be his top priority. I do believe that Schotty will work around his absence should he move on and get other players such as J-CO and Keller more involved. I also believe Edwards can do more then what we saw last year. So all in all we are better off with him, but I believe we can still be a powerful scary offense without him..
obviously no, but if we're talking Edwards or Holmes, regardless of money, i want Braylon. THe man wants to be here. That means a lot to me
Who said this? Holmes is a key piece to our offense and would hurt if we lost him. I have also been on the side that of the two I would rather have Edwards, but losing Holmes will hurt our offense and will be extremely difficult to replace.
