While the chances of him making the squad are quite small I wouldn't be so quick to say he'll be in the trash. Gholston was the 6th overall pick and Westermann was an UDFA from the same year and who turned out to be the better NFL player? If you can play you can play regardless of where you are drafted although in a lot of cases the contracts and politics of the game mean a guy like him may end up cut.

We had Derrick Ward on our practice squad who was a 6th round pick and ended up getting a huge cntract from the Bucs and had a good run with Gfags. We also had Harvey Williams who was also a 7th round pick and lasted a few season before an injury ended his career so there are guys that can survive after being 7th round or late round picks.

That's your reason for not liking a seventh-round pick? Even if the guy becomes a UDFA doesn't mean you automatically can sign him after the draft, there are other teams that might have interest. Sure we'd have the inside cause he's buddy-buddy with Sanchez but you never know, maybe another team has more of a role for him or he wants to go to a different city, whatever.

Anyone else wondering if Sanchez brought his playbook over to McKnight's house?

    McKnight

I like the chemistry he'll have with Sanchez and by all accounts he has a great work ethic. But he better be worthy of a draft pick. Otherwise we could have picked him up as an UDFA.

Just suggesting the NFL draft is not about favors. Otherwise we could have used this pick to trade up earlier.

I trust Rex and Tanny though.

A few facts about our newest receiver:

Holds the University of Colorado record for receptions with 215. Second on the list is Michael Westbrook with 167.

Also holds the record for receiving touchdowns with 22.

Is third all time in receiving yards with 2,521.

Ran a 4.46 at his Pro Day.

And...caught every single pass OUR QUARTERBACK threw him at his pro day.

Outside of his quickness, he's not a top athlete. His broad jump and vertical were blah. He doesn't have the hand size and arm length teams look for. But he catches EVERYTHING that comes his way.

He's NOT just here because he's friends with our quarterback, and I'm fucking tired of people whining or wringing their hands worried about that.

I hope to hell he got an F on that assignment. It is a fabricated lie.

There is no way he can smother a naked chick without feet in gasoline and only light her head on fire. She would have went up like a Roman candle.......... fucking kids nowadays don't know nothing.

Can you even sign UDFA's now? We are in the middle of a lockout after all :p

Besides, why are we assuming all the other teams weren't going to draft him?

The teacher had said she wasn't reading the journals. She was widely disliked and he and his friend had a TT forum in their journals because everyone thought it was a bullshit assignment. So what does the teacher do? She reads them. The students were all absolutely shocked by what was written and what happened after, and there were protests at the school when they were suspended.

Nope. Can't sign UDFAs. This was a sneaky way to get him a playbook and get him to Jets West camp. If he showed up to an unorganized team activity while still unsigned and unable to be signed, it would have been awfully suspicious.

Exactly. Gil Brandt thought he'd go in the 7th round. No guarantees he wouldn't have. There were teams after us.

Thank You! Somebody else who gets it. one more fun fact to add to your list, he is only the 10th player in the history of college football to catch a pass in every game he played in. He accomplished something that only 9 other people in history have accomplished. Thats pretty fucking awesome.

The kid has fucking stickem' for hands. He has solid but not elite speed. He went from walk on to best receiver in the history of his school. He is a good route runner, and you absolutely know Sanchez will spend countless hours helping to turn him into something. There is no risk at all with this pick. He has some potential to at worst be a gunner on teams for Westy. If he fails at that, he moves on. Sanchez will want scotty to succeed so he will spend extra hours going through film and working him out on the field polishing his routes and giving him his best shot to succeed.

If he fails, we blew a 7th round pick that we didnt even have at the start of the day. If he turns into something, we strike gold. Most 7th rounders are out of the league in 2 years, and of those who aren't they generally are purely teams players for life. Its a rare few maybe 2 a year at most that turn into starters and high end talent.

Completely agree. People also need to look back to the first 4 games of last year. Behind Edwards and Cotchery, our receivers were absolutely terrible. Even Brad Smith, as valuable as he's been as a returner and in the wildcat, is not a solid receiver. If we're left with Edwards and Cotchery this season, we'd have had NO ONE to pick up the slack...except Patrick Turner. These two have a chance to contribute early, especially Kerley.

McKnight can be the underneath WR the Jets have been looking for that doesn't come out of the backfield. With his hands and his route running, I'm confident in him getting some early, non-injury related playing time.

Among the positions he plays, B. Smith's worst value to the team is WR and Turner is a question mark with maturity issues and we do not have the money to keep Edwards, Holmes and Smith all on the same roster from the same FA class.

I'm not trying to say Kerley and McKnight are going to come in and make anyone forget about Smith and Holmes(I'm assuming Braylon gets resigned), but we have one promising candidate to fill a need at slot WR in McKnight - which we haven't truly had since Chansi Stuckey - and one candidate to fill a potential need in the return game in Kerley.

Just because McKnight happens to know Sanchez does not make this a throw-away pick. Sanchez knowing McKnight gives the Jets as much good information on what he is like as a player as Kyle Wilson can on Titus Young. The only difference here being that the Jets never had a shot at drafting Titus Young.

Great post. It sure seems likely that Holmes is gone given the type of receivers we just picked up.

I read the story about what happened and quite honestly don't give a shit about it. It happened 5+ years ago?

Iggy if people judged either you or myself on the stupid ass shit we did when we were in our mid to late teens or early twenty's there is no fucking way in hell we would have jobs....... or wives for that matter.
