The draft board analysts were talking about this very thing just now on TV. Said Smith could be gone now, because the Jets' priority now has to be to resign Braylon and Santonio. That's a smart move, IMO.
I guess he's okay, but yes, the immediate value/need isn't there. He's also smallish. I just think we have other needs that could have been better addressed with that particular pick.
I thought he was 205 soaking wet and below prototypical size, but I could be wrong. I've always hoped for a Brandon Jacobs though... that's just me. Not to worry though... 36-year old Tiki Barber will soon be avalable according to this morning's Star Ledger. LOL... what's up with that guy? Speculation is his ex-wife cleaned him out and he's not exactly setting the world on fire with his announcing career. LOL
Im loving this pick, whenever the Jets trade up (under Tanny) you know youre getting someone who is going to be around for a while. And if this means Brad Smith is gone (and were keeping Holmes/Edwards) then that simply makes this move that much better. Nothing against Smith, but our special teams is special because of Westhoff not him. Sure well miss him on that handful of wildcat plays a year, but the upside is so much greater. Not to mention Smith can land a very decent buck on the open market, which gives us some leanway with those final 8 rules (assuming they exist) to get a serviceable OLB. Definitely a draft im more than happy with, assuming Ellis doesnt end up in prison of course.
I'm excited about this pick. This certainlhy takes some of the pressure/focus off of the WR corps. He's not going to replace a guy like Holmes or Smith but I love that we're adding at the position.
Well he could completely replace Smiths special teams role, which would be enough to put Smith out of a job. Assuming Mcknight doesnt step up and do that first.
