The Jets need a PASS RUSH 5 Technique's are a dime a dozen... We had the third ranked run defense with Trevor Pryce and Mike Devito manning the position... With pass rushers like Houston, Bowers, Reed, and Ayers available I can't believe they picked Wilkerson.... Where is the pass rush coming from? I'll tell you where it's not coming from... Off the edge...
This is the logic that brought Gholsten to the Jets. With a bigger push up front our LBs are going to seem faster than they were last year with the lanes they will get to run through.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q8TQg6uoSg yeah you're right he can't get to the QB... terrible pick...
I think the FO is aware of the need for pass rush-- and knowing that still felt the value was with Wilkerson with the 30th pick. I would have been fine with DT, DE, OLB, or OT with the pick so I'm fine with it. Let's hope he pans out as a beast with a 10 year career in green.
Wilkerson is young, and if he's good enough, he'll either be able to command a double team or be able to beat single blocking. Either one of those would help a pass rush.
Wilkerson is just the newest member of the band of lunatics. Rex will create some ridiculous pass rush schemes as always, Wilk is just going to help open up the rush lanes.
You need to have a clogger up in the middle like a Wilk who will open up gaps for the Calvin Pace's and Bryan Thomas's and whoever we will draft from round 3 on. Wilk is a mismatch problem and WILL bat down passes, something we hardly get out of our D-Lineman these days. Expect quite a bit of balls being patted down by Wilk and possibly flying into our defenders hands for an INT. He does it well. Real well.
Are you sure you're not viewing CNNSI's draft 1st round tracker which showed us having taken Nate Irving, OLB from NC State? And Wilkerson still available?
I've been watching film on Wilk on Youtube the past half hour, I notice he eats up 2 blockers a lot. Not bad at all for a DE/T tweener. Pushing OTs around like tackling dummies. That would be where your pass rush comes from, the blocks this guy will eat up and create lots of holes for rushing. He's probably never going to be a double-digit sack artist, but he doesn't need to be.
Watching some of his highlights makes me very very excited for this season. Before someone replies, I do realize highlights don't tell the whole story but this kid DOES have talent and I think he will be a great addition to our D.
We do have Calvin Pace and David Harris. Hopefully Wilkerson can wide the gaps and make Harris's job easier. Which didnt occur last year.
Everyone just assumes you can draft a "pass rusher" and he'll come in and get you 10 sacks. It's not that easy, as Vern will tell you. If the FO felt there was someone on the board who could have made a major impact in the pass-rush, he would've been the choice. But this DL badly needed an infusion of youth.
This. IDC how good of a pass rusher you are, if you don't have the big men in the front creating huge holes for you, you won't get many sacks. It only occurs rarely where you find a pass rusher that is so good that no matter what team their on they can create sacks.
Rex thinks the kid could be the next Ngata, Im fucking up for that. Keep in mind of was one of the biggest Ayers supporters in this board.
